Here's my (actual) top ten then 1) The descent - 2005 2) 28 days later - 2002 3) Tucker & Dale vs evil - 2010 4) Return of the living dead 3 (I know it's not a good movie, but I love the aesthetics) - 1993 5) Hellraiser (again, for the aesthetics. particularly the Cenobites) - 1987 6) The Hound of the Baskerville (I watched it when I was under 10 yo, I made some terrible nightmares after that) - 1959 7) Reeker - 2005 8) Pandorum (more Sci-Fi than horror) - 2009 9) Mama - 2013 10) Contracted - 2013 Some images come to mind : razorback and the huge boar in the middle of Australia, the girl next door and the "based on a true story" , an american werewolf in London and the tranformation, JeruZalem and the angels/demons, and so many others I can't even remember the name :/

Pandorum, woo! I love sci-fi flavored horror and there's just not enough of it. If you haven't seen Event Horizon yet, that's another good one.

Oh lists are great for finding new stuff absolutely! Or for provoking "if you like that one, try this one" talks, I love a list. I'll show you mine if you show me yours Ahem. That goes for everybody, I wanna see favorites! It's tough making a top ten, geez. I mean, some of my favorites I'm just kind of tired of, you know? Stuff like The Exorcist and Halloween. I love them but I've seen them so many times, but then they're basically a given for this kind of thing. So I'll leave those off. Also this list changes probably every year with the exception of a couple of films. (Yes, I'm apparently going to type out every one of my thoughts on the list before posting the friggin thing.) (you're welcome) Okay fine, in no particular order even though they are numbered: - Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
- The Haunting (1963)
- Martyrs (2008)
- The Descent (2005)
- Lake Mungo (2008)
- Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
- Black Christmas (1974)
- The Fog (1980)
- Night of the Living Dead (1968)
- Salem's Lot (1979)
almost made it: Candyman, The Blair Witch Project (THAT'S RIGHT, I LOVE IT), Creepshow, [REC] *phew* this took a lot out of me I think you're my new internet best friend. I've only seen some movies on your list, I'm a fraud. I do love you a bit more for mentioning Creepshow, first one, I didn't think much of the 2nd one. Although it didn't make your top list, I really enjoyed it. Stephen King as that dimwitted farmer who found that meteor was particularly memorable and that cockroach scene. As for my list, argh! I don't know, I'll have to get back to ya on this. I'm not sure, watch this space. I'm fine with this You're totally right, Creepshow 2 is...not good. Except for "The Raft" though, that's a little treasure. And you're not a fraud, padawan. Just think, you have a ton of great movies out there waiting for you that you've never crossed paths with. What's better than that? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you'd probably like Lake Mungo if you're into tension and atmosphere. Just don't read anything about it or spoil yourself! I will say, that movie really effed me up. It worked its way under my skin and I didn't even realize it, but man. It's stuck with me ever since. And it's the only movie I've seen that was scarier the second time I saw it. YMMV but it really worked for me. "As for my list, argh! I don't know, I'll have to get back to ya on this." Just kidding, I know curating these things can take time. That's right, I said "curating" /douche

Although, the 3rd half of the movie got kinda weird, I dunno, it just seemed to run outta steam for me at that point. Also, since Australia was mentioned, Wolf Creek is another rec, loosely based on the infamous back-pack serial killer Ivan Milat.

Uzumaki is one of the weirdest and probably the most visually interesting thing I've ever watched. It's not the sort of thing I'd advise someone watch as a first introduction to Asian horror, because it's high strangeness, but I really enjoyed it.

Okay, this is in no particular order. I'd find it too hard to actually rank these. 1. Alien (1979) a classic, in space no one can hear you scream! Ripley tho 2. Battle Royale (2000) troublesome Japanese teenagers dumped on an island and forced to fight to the death, last one standing wins. 3. The Thing (1982) 4. The Shining (1980) my Dad is also a big horror fan, one of his favourites and mine. 5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 6. Jaws (1975) again, watched it alot growing up, family fav aha. 7. ZombieLand (2009) Bill Murray zombie, need I say more! 8. Ringu (1998) much prefer the original Japanese version 9. The Mist (2007) hysteria and monster mayhem. 10. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) I've watched this movie to death, wasn't sure if I could class this as a horror entry so, I looked it up. I can. Crime thriller with horror elements, it's legit, it fits. Jodie Foster tho. Almost made the list: The Omen (1976) and The Exorcist (1973), legit creeped me out. Srsly, satanic subject matter has that effect on me, sleepless nights aplenty after viewing em first time round. For nostalgia reasons and I watched these alot growing up, Arachnophobia (1990) [luckily I don't have this fear aha] Gremlins (1984) and for it's self-aware goodness Scream (1996) Speaking of horror viewing as a kid, I adored these shows too, Are You Afraid of the Dark? And Goosebumps. 90s Nickelodeon rocked!

I admit I prefer The Ring to Ringu...which one did you see first? It seems mostly that people tend to go with whichever they saw first, at least in all of my scientific* studies. Good taste you have! Hmm talk like Yoda apparently I do *not at all scientific

I think The Ring and Ringu are both pretty good movies, but it's probably the only case for me with US remakes of Asian horror films. Basically every other time I've just been like, why would you do this?
When I was younger I didn't watch the ones mentioned, but I did watch old re-runs of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and Tales from the Crypts late at night. I've never had a great sleep schedule. lol

I can be another statistic for your study. There's a Liara joke in there but I won't be baited into it! I think The Ring and Ringu are both pretty good movies, but it's probably the only case for me with US remakes of Asian horror films. Basically every other time I've just been like, why would you do this? Totally agree. I've been sitting here trying to think of another remake that's decent and I'm coming up blank. I guess people like The Grudge? I think there's such a fundamental difference to the way Hollywood approaches horror that it can rarely work. It's amazing though that the remakes tend to be SO bad. Like, excruciating. (Looking at you, One Missed Call ) I find it really interesting, though, the way horror styles kinda break down within different geographical regions. There are of course plenty of exceptions, but "French horror film" brings to mind one kind of thing while "Italian horror film" brings to mind something entirely different, etc

I U more and more each day. As for French and Italian horror, I'm a noob to this genre. Any recs? Hmm recommendations might be tough because they both tend to be ultra-gory and in the case of French horror, pretty violent. Neither is for the faint of heart! I'm not always a fan of that kind of thing, but with the French films, all of that is often dressing to social commentary about gender or religion or politics, etc. I can deal with the graphic violence and effects if there's some meat and a point to it. But that's not the case for everyone, and some people think that the story is NEVER served by the violence. I mean, these three covers side by side give you a little taste, and those are just covers Italian horror is also usually super-gory, but it's in the realm of the fantastic or bizarre. It's very often style *completely* over substance, so the plots are kind of dream-like and maybe (totally) non-sensical. But they are SO over-the-top, stylish, and visually stimulating that if you can accept the nonsense and head-scratching (and violence and gore), they're a treat. So as for what I can actually recommend? There are some old-school films that lack the violence and gore but give a hint at what each country would be doing in the decades following...I'm thinking specifically about Eyes Without a Face (French, 1960) and Black Sabbath (1963, Italian). Newer stuff? The French film Ils is not as crazy violent and gross as its contemporaries. Not my favorite but it's pretty good. Trailer:
As for Italian horror, Dario Argento's Suspiria (1977) is maybe marginally more bloody than early 80s slashers? But it's NUTS, a beauty to behold and an absolute horror classic.
