Late to the party but, I recently watched the new Beauty & the Beast over the weekend. Really enjoyed it, still prefer the cartoon original tho.

I saw The Dark Tower today (Saturday). It was really great. It didn't follow the book series, but is it's on original take on things. The characters were quite close to how they behaved in the books though, so it was great in that sense. I would recommend it to fans of the books (if they can get past the fact it isn't a recreation of the events of the book), and say maybe wait to rent it if you aren't a DTS fan.

Has anyone seen the actor playing Jafar in the new live action Aladdin. He is a young swole hot guy, Im sure he is a good actor but to me it just highlights what a disaster this remake is going to be. Make the middle aged, wiry, villain into a muscular hottie, basically Jafar is just going to be an evil Aladdin.

He is far too attractive to play that part, but I can live with that.

I thought it could have used another 30 to 45 minutes to build up the tension. It wasn't as bad as the reviews led me to expect it to be and I didn't have any trouble following the plot despite never having read any of the books, but the whole thing felt a little anticlimactic to me.

It was always going to be a bit hard to sell the characters and leave it in a state that can easily be picked up for the series they have baking. To my knowledge not many movies are made with a series to follow it in mind like this? It is all very strange. I am curious to see if or how they will meet the other main characters from the books. I really can't imagine them moving forward without Eddie and Susanna, but who knows.

Saw Atomic Blonde this evening. Really enjoyable, the fight scenes were very well choreographed and shot, decent plot but it´s not has clever as it thinks it is and its very well cast. Charlize Theron is standout but everyone is great.
Think of it as a cross between a James Bond film set during the cold war (only without all the misogyny) and Die Hard.
I´d recommend it.

Somehow I never saw a trailer for this movie before, despite that it comes out in less than 2 weeks. That said, always glad to see more Peter Dinklage. Especially when he's given roles that weren't written with a little person in mind.

It's not a future classic or anything, but it's something I would happily rewatch. And while the plot wasn't groundbreaking, I thought the did a good job balancing the whodunnit of it all.

It has some rough edges which probably stem from the inexperience of David Leitch as a director but it's a really solid film. Definitely one to add to my collection when it comes out, there aren't a lot of films like it and I'd happily watch it a few more times. I'm sure there are parts I missed that I'll spot on a rewatch. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with Deadpool 2, at the very least we know the fight scenes are going to be incredibly well done.

watched -What Happened to Monday on Netflix. It is a really interesting film, but I do have some issues with some of the themes. The ´twists' were very obvious but Noomi Rapace did a fantastic job of plaything 7 people though, it was very believable from that perspective. More thoughts in spoilers. This film wouldn't have worked at all of Noomi wasn't able to pull off the role, but she was great. Each sister felt very different, not just their hairstyle and clothes but their body language and reactions were all different.
The special effects were very well done and I liked how quickly the plot got moving, no plodding through each of the sisters day before getting started, just straight into things.
My issues stem from Monday´s motivations for betraying her sisters and certain aspects of the world.
Firstly, the film frames it like Monday turned her sisters in because she fell in love with a hot guy, there is a little bit about how she thinks she is the only real Karen and her sisters are just pretending and her desire to protect her unborn children but those are just kinda dropped in at the end (though the pregnancy is foreshadowed with her getting sick in the morning)
Most of reasoning the film shows is this guy she fancies and I have a hard time believing that she would sanction the murder of her sisters because of a hotboy. We dont know too much about Monday but all the sisters seem close, so it just doesn't ring true to me. More focus on Monday´s desire to be her own person throughout the film would have made for a more believable reason for betrayal.
Secondary, this is a world that is struggling to deal with overpopulation and yet it doesn't seem to have readily available, affordable birth control. There is one sign for free sterilisation but that is it from a birth control pov, so it looks like they decided that killing children was the best way to deal with crisis, over developing a method to reduce multiple births and affordable birth control. The end of the film even makes it clear that the policies of the government mostly affected poor women, who had to hide when they were pregnant.
Glenn Closes´s character is supposed to be somewhat sympathetic, but she spent the past 30 years deciding that child murder was a better solution to overpopulation than literally any other solution. Also her grand plan once elected (to queen of the world? that is not made clear) would result in restricting children to rich people, which again, not a great solution.
Also how did her main bodyguard survive Friday´s bomb?
