I did and I'm sorry I did. I wish I could experience the game for the first time as I am now, NOW that it's actually complete But we're all suckers, and I'm the chief sucker. I'll totally buy Anthem. Please, guys, don't even think about this before getting more info, gameplays and then reviews. Am I the only one here who didn't preorder? I bought ME:A after m/m patch. I knew there was something suspicious about m/m before ME:A release. Now staying away from Anthem, because again- the lack of rpg elements in e3 gameplay was weird. (I'm still salty about this game tbh. Fuck you Anthem, fuck you for killing ME and for being Destiny clone) Nope. I haven't pre-ordered a game in years, just don't see the point to this anymore. Ideally I like to wait for reviews first then decide. Nothing about Anthem has me hyped.

Aside from all the negativity, which is pretty understandable, I really really really really hope Anthem will do well and I'm wishing them the best. Im just way too afraid about Dragon Age's future if Anthem turns out to be bad. Mass Effect didn't deliver at launch, but I am still hopeful for Dragon Age and I don't want one of the very few companies, that provide lgbt options in their games, to just die out. I'm just so salty that we have to fear for that possibility. Meanwhile Ubisoft is making one mediocore AC game after another. Fuck off :/ I mean, Bioware game's have a lot of issues, but there is just no other games I can really compare to it. Bethesda games are different, CDPR games are different...
If Bioware stops making games, games just won't feel the same for me anymore lol.

It will probably mean EA will want Bioware to focus more on multiplayer games.

I really doubt they would be forced to turn 180° and suddenly make it multiplayer only, especially because of DA:I's success. I'm pretty sure there will be a Co-Op mp mode again, like in DA:I and Mass Effect. That's probably a given. See, if DA4 turns out to be shit, while Anthem does good, THEN I'll be worried about it. They made SWTOR too and they didn't ditch their singleplayer games either.

Looks like Anthem's composer is Ted Reedy. He did some of the better tracks on the DAI soundtrack.

My big concern is that if now even Bioware is going down this route, and ignoring what they are known for and why they have a fanbase - the rpg elements - then I fear every game is going down this route. I don't play mp for a reason and many others don't. So, what? Are we shit now?

On most gaming sites that have articles about it the comments are pretty positive. With this game I think BioWare is turning away from its core fans and attempting to attract a new group of fans, i.e. MP and shooter fans, people who like Halo, Destiny, Overwatch, etc. Those kinds of fans are looking for beautiful graphics and a great MP experience. I have a feeling Anthem will deliver. Blech. Hopefully it will be the new cash cow for BioWare and they can focus some of the cash on making Dragon Age and *crosses fingers* Mass Effect even better. Maybe get that open world nonsense out of their system. Considering the above, I think the best case scenario is instead of Bioware sacrificing RPG elements in its RPGs to try to attract a wide audience, they instead make Anthem specifically to do that and restore their RPGs to their former glory, concentrating on appealing to their current fanbase and potential RPG fans. The best of both worlds, appealing to RPG fans and shooter fans... just not with the same game. I just wish they had Montreal make Anthem and Edmonton make ME:A... Edmonton has experience with RPGs and Mass Effect specifically while Montreal is great at everything combat. Oh well. I think that would be an ideal scenario -- they make their one big "mainstream" franchise that makes them money, which would give them more free reign to do the more niche RPG elements for their DA, ME and any other IPs they decide to do after that. They need to be clear about whether it's an RPG or not. They've now gone on the record saying both. I've heard "RPG-like," "not an RPG" and "hybrid RPG action/adventure." The thing is, if they're really pushing for the online co-op, are there even going to be any companions? It feels like they are going to do away with companions and have the co-op players fill this role. So while it's technically possible to play solo, it will be a quiet and lonely play through experience. My guess is that it's going to be similar to Borderlands, where you can play it solo, or up to four people, and instead of companions, you have super memorable support casts in the hub areas that you can interact with and possibly romance. Gearbox does that very well, so I have no doubt that Bioware can do the same.

Edmonton has experience with RPGs and Mass Effect specifically while Montreal is great at everything combat. Oh well. The big criticisms of games like Overwatch and Destiny is that the games themselves have so little story and all the story of the world is done via websites or videos. If BioWare did a big story driven campaign that could be played in SP or MP and then had all the MP stuff like dungeons, I think they'd make most people happy, end up making a mint and could use that money to fund other games. To my mind, EA getting BioWare to make a game like this is because they want to beat out other online shooters by having a BioWare story. It would be the hook the others don't have. The trailer gives a slight hint to this being the case, the start of it looks like an instance that is specific to that player. The NPC speaking directly to her in a RPG rather than an MMO manner, the fact that there was only her gear sitting at the exit and that she met up with the other player outside the city, rather than in the city. I'll need to see more but I'm not going to write it off the same way I normally do with MP games because I missed out on alot of fun with games I ended up enjoying doing that so I'm giving it a chance.

I know Gaider worked on Anthem for a year as well so it definitely must have some sort of story going on. Once upon a time there was a city of technological wonders inside a strong wall that separated it from the wild forest outside. Here, men in tech suits would venture out and hunt for the city and bring back enough meat to keep everyone alive. Then a champion was born, and there were many robot dances to celebrate. As he grew older, he built the best suit the city had ever seen, but his boyfriend (Yayyy gay romance) stole the suit. The champion should have killed him for it, but he loved his boyfriend very much, so he decided to build an even bigger, better, more badass suit called a "Javelin". With this new suit, he could fly like the birds and dive to the bottom of the sea. It was awsome sauce. Such good sauce it was, and the hero and his "Javelin" became so famous, that wild people from outside the city started to come to train with him, and help him on expeditions to the magic forest to kill magic beasts. On one such expedition, they came across a Forest Dragon in human form, fucking the hero's ex-boyfriend. Hero was enraged and with his social disruptive spells, not only called on more allies from the outside, but disrupted the Dragon's ability to issue commands to the Forest minions. The hero killed the dragon. The boyfriend begged for life but the hero had fallen in love with one of the new socially disrupted people so the hero killed the ex-boyfriend too, took back his tech suit and put it on his new boyfriend like a wedding ring. The dark curse of the dragon was lifted, the forest turned all bright and full of pastel colored birds, and all the creatures and all the new disrupted people came to the hero's wedding in the Grotto. The End.

Or if the city was having a formal dinner party, the disruptives would put their mammoth tusk loudspeakers up their bums and make amplified farting noises, thus disrupting the social gathering within. The city hated them. But with the fame of the Javelins, the disruptives were impressed and started assisting the city on expeditions. (I'm still salty about this game tbh. Fuck you Anthem, fuck you for killing ME and for being Destiny clone) Nope. Nothing at all that I've seen about Anthem interests me. I want a single-player story experience, where I can roleplay, preferably in a fantasy setting. I also generally prefer to customize my own character*. I didn't pre-order MEA, and in fact only bought it after the whole romance debacle exploded and I learned about Gil. He sounded so great (as a person), that despite the problems I purposely wanted to romance him anyway. It was my first ME game, so I hadn't intended to play it at all. But I normally prefer a fantasy sword 'n' sorcery setting over a sci-fi shooter. The only game I will pre-order will be DA4, without a single hesitation. After the game is announced, I'm not going to even learn anything about the game. * MEA is a rare exception to this since I like default Scott a whole bunch.

This is the only suit without a jetpack so I'm assuming its powered by the Anthem equivalent of magic or biotics.
