They were being completely honest about it and it makes me more excited for Greedfall too, now that they have enough budget for both male/female protagonists Link 1 | Link 2 Thanks! That was quite refreshing to read! They seem so genuine in their love for video games and wanting to be inclusive. BioWare could learn a lot from them. Even though it is a shame females were excluded, I'm glad they chose not to sacrifice so much just to do it. I can't imagine it would have been as good as it is now. It also makes me happy that they might even revisit the world of Technomancer later. It's a very interesting setting with a lot of potential...but it is also very satisfying as a standalone experience. Davrin's boobs mrjack Andrew Mancer Finally found some links to those Technomancer interviews from 2-ish years ago. They were being completely honest about it and it makes me more excited for Greedfall too, now that they have enough budget for both male/female protagonists Link 1 | Link 2 I didnt see the second link! I totally get the budget part, if this game wouldnt have had Andrew as m/m romance my perspective would have been very different, because I understand Geralt as main protagonist being an established character but not for one new character made from scratch, they thought about queer men doing Technomancer and for me that means a lot, it's more difficult or nearly impossible to be a gay/bi man protagonist than a woman protagonist, that is sadly a fact. As I said many times, this would have been unforgivable for an AAA company but Spiders has been slowly growing. With Greedfall we are going to see how they treat lgbtq and female players, I hope the game wont let us down! I just want a cute native american boyfriend, their culture was super lgbtq friendly before it was tainted by christianism. This is why I get so happy when I find new games with gay protagonists/gay romance. It's a rarity in video games (or anything, really) and I struggle to find any outside of BioWare/Bethesda. We're lucky if we get even a minor gay NPC! You're much more likely to find lesbian/bisexual women, even in BioWare games. Thanks for sharing that video, it was pretty interesting.

It looks like Commander Shepard`s adventure in Space is continued. lol

OI ALL HANDS ON DECK. Divinity: Original Sin II is out, and while I still haven't played it yet (apparently it's pretty buggy, I'm waiting for patches) I'm hearing rumors that it's gay as all hell. Can definitely confirm at least one M/M romance, on everything else I'm having trouble finding solid facts, but it kinda sounds like all the companions are romanceable and bi. I'll update if I find something solid.

Conclusion, not really gay as hell, just no gender gating, that's it. Yaaaay... I prefer this. I don't mind this approach, but the problem is that these characters are always portrayed as "mostly straight but gay for you". It doesn't feel good when your romance choice is always pointing out their preference for women and flirts with them and shows no attraction to men aside from you. It's one of the reasons I can't enjoy the Zevran romance, as much as I love him. If developers want to go this route, they need to make sure they are more "equal" with the preferences and allow the males to express attraction to other men. And no I won't give them a pass if it is only the females being open about their attraction to other females. That's the "easy way out" for "representation" and is nothing new. That said...Ifan certainly has my interest. It's nice to see a guy like that as bisexual...but I can't completely judge until I've played myself! Beast isn't my type but I think the same could be said for him.

I know I'd be upset if a romance in a game only showed "straight" interest for my specific character. It's good more companies are being better about this but there is still a long ways to go. I really just want more information on greedfall because it may be the best bet for a while.

By the way, Fane's romance scene that is posted in there is incorrect. It's more of a... usual thing, not romance-related scene in any way. Romances lock further down the line (as in Ifan and Beast vids, and scene happens in the same room).

Not sure if this has been discussed anywhere else, but the new South Park game (The Fractured But Whole) allows you to pick your race, ethnicity, gender identity, biological sex, sexuality, and religion. Of course, it's done very tongue in cheek (for example, when you select your gender identity and biological sex in the beginning you are jumped by some rednecks who call you a 'thing' and say that they don't want your type in their town -- even if you select a cisgendered male, which is pretty amusing; and the difficulty slider is the skin color selector -- the darker your skin, the harder the game, which I personally think is fucking brilliant watching people complain that the game 'forces you to be black' if you want to play at a higher difficulty). Of course, there's no romance in the game, but you can definitely be gay. My first character is a gay guy (labeled a "homosexual cis male" on his character sheet) and I started a second game as a black lesbian trans girl to see how different it plays out (spoiler: not very, but there is different cut scene dialogue). And, in this game, Craig and Tweek (the two gay kids on the show) are "buddies" (re: companions). This game, unlike the original which was fantasy, is a superhero themed story. So Super Craig is a brutalist (melee tank type) and Wonder Tweek is a elementalist (ranged elemental dps like Storm from the X-Men). There's a side quest to get them back together and Tweek's special "summon" attack is a yaoi cutscene of the two of them. It's pretty fucking hilarious.

Hey, here's a game I should have mentioned months ago. I dunno if anyone here has heard of Seven Kingdoms: The Princess Problem. It's an otome game, but also a fantasy-ish political thriller. The writing is fantastic, and there's a lot of freedom to define your character as you like. And you can marry a badass lesbian warrior, so any Cassandra fans have that going for them. Course, it's a game written by a straight dev who's never done this before, so a few caveats: the PC is female only, so there aren't any M/M options, just F/F, although there are some queer men in the cast. The female romance options are firmly outnumbered by the male options - you get three options in the demo, and the full game will have two more you can unlock, so it's a lot better than just getting one default, but heads up on that. And finally, alas, the gay guy gets hit with a homophobia plot. I actually didn't mind it too much, since it fits the plot and themes of the rest of the game (unlike Dorian's character arc, where you get a generic homophobia plot dropped in the middle of a high fantasy epic like a turd in a punch bowl) but if the idea of a gay guy marrying a woman for political reasons makes you uncomfortable, you might give this one a pass. I hate to spend most of the post pointing out where the game goes wrong, though, because it really is damn well written and I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone. It's still in development, but you can grab the demo here. And it's worth mentioning that the dev has been great about listening to LGBT fans' criticism, so I'm pretty sure whatever she works on next will be a lot better. Keep an eye on this one. Edit: Fuck, I just realized I posted the wrong demo link. That's an old one. Here's a link to the new demo, sorry about the confusion.

So bit of a cheat this one since there is no romancing in the game but you can be gay in South Park The Fractured But Whole. It is a very minor thing, but I do appreciate getting to flesh out a player character nearly anyway I can.
EDIT: Oops someone beat me to it. My bad😅

It's probably an unpopular opinion but I can't stand South Park. It thinks it's so much smarter and funnier than it really is when the premise is basically "Americans are stoopid <insert fart joke>", while at the same time every American watching thinks that they are in on the joke and the show isn't talking about them. It's depressing. And the shows creators secretly think they are making some sort of subversive and profound social commentary while at the same time holding their hands up to say "Hey, there's no message! It's just comedy!". One of the creators is a registered Libertarian (and the other guy holds the same beliefs) which is basically a Republican without Jesus. But thanks for Big Gay Al, Matt! Oh and for making the devil a lisping bottom bitch in your movie because that was super hilarious! Blech. In all seriousness, the show doesn't offend me really. I just think it's moronic.

I've discovered a game called Madrid Zombi, an interactive fiction novel with romances. It has a good story (to summarize: the world goes to shit because there are zombies everywhere) some hard decisions, the villain is just awesome and a gay LI who is the best LI in the game and he has more content that the others.
The bad part? It's only in spanish and you can only be a man. Plus it's not finished yet. Madrid Zombi 1 is but Madrid Zombi 2 has 1/5 chapters.
But if you like to read (I don't and I cant wait to see what's going to happen next) and you know spanish you could give it a try if you want
