Well that'll be gone soon, and so will Moffat. The show will stop being held down by his very problematic writing. Now I'm just thinking about what 13's character could be like. Personality and all that. We have no way of knowing right now, it's exciting though. I really hope she's more in touch with her feelings then 12 was. I mean part of me worries they'll try to make her "not too feminine" when I think she should just be herself. Often times the best acting is when you draw from a real place, and the doctor is perfect role for that since he doesn't have a solid set of rules. Every doctor has been their own person. I just want her to have her badass moments, and I'm really looking forward to the male companion (if they're male) being the 'damsel in distress' all the time and 13 coming to save their ass. Oh the salt will flow from idiots and it will sustain me. Just like how salt flowed from idiots because Bill mentioned she likes girls and not boys only...3 times? Like genuinely fuck off if that's too much in your eyes, with the way things are there's no such thing as too much with that stuff.

I loved that they never tried to hide Bill's sexuality. It was wonderful. I especially loved the Roman episode where being gay was old fashioned. I laughed so hard!

Oh that was beautiful, you were expecting it to be tense and she was afraid to tell them but they embraced her with open arms about it. I'm just trying to remember when she says it. There's the big house episode where she mentions it, the Romans and the last episode where she tells it to the Doctor. Now at the start of the series and the end with her girlfriend, I would say that's show not tell. So 3 instances of tell, and 2 of show (I know I'm probably forgetting something). Anyway...that's nowhere near enough. There can always be more gay.

Also I'm in love with her outfit. I really liked Tennant's trench coat, and I adore her trench coat even more. ...I like long coats, could you tell? Same but they did say it wasn't her official outfit tho... but still I hope it's canon in the sense that she'll use it at least once in the show.

Diversity is certainly getting better in Doctor Who. We've had some LGBT characters over time, a bi guy companion, a lesbian couple and a lesbian companion for the entirety of this series that just finished and she's awesome. And of course, the first female Doctor. So yeah, start watching, from the start of the ninth Doctor I'd say. I think you'll love it. This is news to me! maybe I will start early than I though. Ninth Doctor you say? gonna to check it out. Also I forget about torchwood, also like it. Thanks for the heads up! Torchwood has my cries. Literally sobbed till I couldn't see the screen and my eyes hurt lmao.

OH my. I don't understand why the awful people are always so upset when things change even a little. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the new doctor a lot! (I really didn't like Capaldi!) It is 100% Steven Moffat's fault that you don't like Capaldi. 11th didn't have that douchy aesthetic tho.

I mean I don't know all the classic doctors well enough to judge some of them (in fact I'd say I only know 2, 3, and 4 well enough to have a strong opinion, well and 8 since he was only in the movie and I watched that), but of the ones I know even then they were rarely as dry as 12 was. Oh well. I know a lot of people liked 12. I just wasn't one of them. I was just lucky to have Clara and Bill to keep the show good for me!

Like there are points where they are both nice and all bc this is still the doctor we are talking about here. But I can't help but draw other conclusions. New regeneration cycle and all that, and meeting each other? Guess it's only fitting. [don't understand people who didn't like eleven at all]

However, the complaints I saw mostly boiled down to "not David Tennant".

I watched all the Chris Watshisface, and David Tennant episodes on Netflix (I want them back on Netflix too, damn you amazon!). So I missed most of that drama thankfully! I loved Martha, but yeah I liked Rose the best of those 3. Donna was great, but her ending makes me so sad...I almost just want to not think about her. I hate how they did her!

It's odd, I know he is considered to be a jerk-but it never seemed to bother me much. I rather liked most of his hi-jinks. Though he did need to go towards the end-as much as I loved him- it was time for a change. I think 3 seasons and then a new doctor works pretty well.

Big ole' Whovian -- I've been avoiding this thread because of spoilers, but now that I got through all of season 10...here we go! He is such a grump and really makes some preachy decisions. Sometimes I feel like the past 3 seasons has just been one long running joke of "I'm old and cranky, get off my damn lawn kids" Yeah, that pretty much IS who the Doctor has been since the start. I mean, when the War Doctor looked at 10 and 11 and wondered if he had a Mid-Life Crisis, he wasn't that far off. You should see how authoritative 1 and 3 could be... And this season, he has decided to tell Bill absolutely nothing about Time Lords, his past, and more, so then Bill gets into a lot more trouble. I miss Eleven so much. I finished watching the season finale. I mean still under spoiler rules so... Thank goodness he's finally dead. He better not take the whole xmas special to regenerate either! He better just go ahead an regenerate in the first 15 minutes, I'm done that ass already! Also lol at the original doctor coming back (clearly a different actor though since the original original is dead. ) If you're curious about who showed up in the end, I would recommend checking out "An Adventure in Space & Time." It was a TV movie that they made around the time of the 75th anniversary about the start of Doctor Who. I binged season 10 the other day, I can only watch the Moffat seasons all in one go because he is way to found of baiting the audience with ´important cliffhangers/plot points´ that turn out to be garbage. He also went way too much into the Dr´s backstory and how amazing he is. The show is not really supposed to be about the Dr himself but the companions and the excuse of time travel to explore & deconstruct the usual scifi & fantasy tropes. Moffat´s Dr is constantly defeating enemies with long speeches about how cool he is. Missy has been the stand out character of the past two seasons, absolutely loved her. Im hoping the next doctor will be a woman or a non white guy. It is an iconic role and it would be nice to give other types of actors the chance to play him. Well, the show wasn't about that originally -- at first it was a way to get kids to learn lessons about history or general morality in an entertaining way. And the classic show had done about as much exploration of the Doctor's past before. I mean, they fully intended his real name to be Sigma Alpha before it was retconned to be a nickname from the Academy. The show is always changing gears, that's how it works, how it's been around for this long. i got spoiled by tumblr re: the heather thing. The master/missy thing was well done (yet.. I figured missy to be smart enough not to turn her back after she stabbed the master) also the space magic thing was a bit... weird tbh. The Missy/Master thing was really well done but I am wondering about her apparent death.
Firstly there wasn´t a big deal made of it and secondly she did actually remember parts of her time as the Master on the ship because she had that spare part.
She might have remembered more than she was letting on. It seems like a classic Dr Who fake out to me. It fits with what we've seen before about timeline syncing with past Doctors -- like how they reframed 10's line of "I don't want to go" as also being about him dying for real in Trenzalore. Trench coats are cool. Not as cool as bow ties, but what can you do? Ehhhhhhh, I just accepted the bow tie for...however many years it was there, there's nothing wrong with it of course, it WAS Matt Smith. When he slowly pulled it off before regenerating, that was fucking beautiful. However, seeing Capaldi with his sharp, nice suits (the velvet one oh my god mmmmmm), with no bow tie made me very happy. I like a suit with no tie of any kind. Don't hurt me. Hey, in terms of embarassing accessories, the bow time doesn't hold a candle to 5 walking around with a celery stuck to his coat. But I suppose they can't all be as fashion forward as 6... I am actually curious about Doctor Who now. I watched Class because the cast seemed diverse and interesting. Maybe I will get finally into the fandom and watch all of it. I didn't feel Class all that much. Like, I dug the attempts at diversity, but the show itself felt kind of bland outside of that. It is 100% Steven Moffat's fault that you don't like Capaldi. That's a very real possibility. I just know I hated how emotionally defunct that doctor was. He was basically just an asshole almost constantly-and "I don't understand why me being terrible bothers anyone." That running gag for 3 seasons was not amusing. Uh...I don't know how you could have gotten something completely wrong without actively trying to. Yes, he was a manipulative asshole in season 8, but that was part of his character arc. He saw what that did to Clara and Danny, and pulled it back. Way back. From that moment on, Twelve was probably the most compassionate, the most emotional Doctor in the modern show. I mean, how can you call this moment "emotionally defunct?" If I were perfectly honest, it kind of sounds like from what I'm seeing that the only reason some of you guys don't like Twelve is that he's older and not as young and hot as Tennent or Smith. I don't like the whole "damnsels in distress" thing when it's with women, why should I like it when it's men? Just let both characters have their own strengths and give them reasons in the story why they're there. That's far more powerful and, frankly, far more progressive. Like, I think the best example of what this sort of dynamic would be the recent Wonder Woman movie -- Steve was never shown to be lesser than Diana, sometimes she saved his ass, sometimes he saved hers. It was more then 3 times thankfully! I loved that they never tried to hide Bill's sexuality. It was wonderful. I especially loved the Roman episode where being gay was old fashioned. I laughed so hard! I liked the idea of the scene, but felt it ran for a little too long in a story that was already pretty light on actual plot and substance. Also I'm in love with her outfit. I really liked Tennant's trench coat, and I adore her trench coat even more. ...I like long coats, could you tell? Same but they did say it wasn't her official outfit tho... but still I hope it's canon in the sense that she'll use it at least once in the show. Well, it's definitely invocative of Twelve's current outfit, so we'll see her in something like this, I'm sure. Yeah. 11 was very friendly and likable. I loved him so much! I mean I don't know all the classic doctors well enough to judge some of them (in fact I'd say I only know 2, 3, and 4 well enough to have a strong opinion, well and 8 since he was only in the movie and I watched that), but of the ones I know even then they were rarely as dry as 12 was. New regeneration cycle and all that, and meeting each other? Guess it's only fitting. [don't understand people who didn't like eleven at all] One was kind of on another level. In the beginning, all he cared about was protecting his granddaughter. That's it. Hell, his first companions he basically kidnapped, probably to dispose of because he was afraid that they would reveal who his grandaughter was. Every story was less about saving people and more "we have to save these people so we can get the hell out of here." It wasn't until the middle of the first or second season that the Doctor was able to get into the TARDIS and leave at any time but didn't because stopping the threat was the right thing to do. Eh, people like to dislike things as a rule. However, the complaints I saw mostly boiled down to "not David Tennant". Just like how people didn't like Martha bc she wasn't rose but were fine with Donna. We all really know it's about race and the fact that she dared to fall in love with the doctor. The irony is that most of the hate came from tumblr who was all about woc and all that jazz I mean, Martha's arc with being in love with the Doctor could have been better handled, and probably wasn't the brightest idea to do right after the whole budding romance with Rose, but yeah, Martha was definitely great. It was a shame that they never got a chance to really flesh her out in Torchwood, like they planned. And yeah, Tumblr is kind of a horrible place 90% of the time. At least it has the good fan art. I didn't start watching the show live till the third Matt Smith Season. I was late to the party. I watched all the Chris Watshisface, and David Tennant episodes on Netflix (I want them back on Netflix too, damn you amazon!). So I missed most of that drama thankfully! Whoa JayKay huge multi-quote lol. I was joking around with the damsel in distress thing, I know it won't happen. And I really liked 12. ...and 11, and 10, and 9. I really don't hate any of the Doctors, after a while I just love the current one as much as the other ones, all the time. Is there something wrong with me? Am I supposed to hate one? Everyone seems to have a Doctor they're hell bent (hehe, sorry) on disliking.

And yeah, I've loved all the Doctors too -- each of them offered something great to the table and have at least a few undesputed classics under their belts. Here, to make it even more interesting -- I loved both Davis' AND Moffat's runs. They both had their pros and cons. Anyway, something interesting I just found. I have no problems with a female Doctor and looking forward to seeing what Jodie will do with the character, but I think this offers a good point why it was important that the Doctor was a man.

The Doctor will be a man again down the line, it hasn't been lost. People just need to handle it not being their turn for a while, it's not that hard.
