OMG, just read this comment. 'If they want equality then they should stop shoving gay themes in our faces. Don't really care if a companion is gay, don't focus on it, focus on the whole point of the show: adventures in Time and Space' Does this guy release that there are whole plot points in the show about heterosexual attraction? Almost every single female companion has pined over him and then there was Amy & Rory. I just want to rant at people like this. They so clearly do care if people are gay but want to pretend like they don't. Sometimes I even wonder if they are consciously aware of how homophobic they are being. |

A lot of homophobia in the comment section and a lot of thumbs down... Why I'm not surprised... That video was so gay! I love it! It's always kind of awesome to hear people verbalize thoughts I've had in my head, but never actually vocalized them.  |

I just realized I'm going to be disappointed with whoever they choose for a companion. I'd prefer a youthful male (for a change), but Imma puke if there's any romantic chemistry with the Doctor... and we all know we're not getting another homo for a while after Bill. So maybe I'd prefer another female, but that seems unlikely too :/
I expect disaster, so maybe I'll end up being pleasantly surprised?

That does make me wonder how they'll handle potential love interests for The Doctor in this upcoming season. We've predominantly seen him flirt with and be romantic with women (I mean, there's Jack, but you can count those instances on one hand and they can be interpreted as banter). But how will they have her interact with men? Is there a chance for a male romantic interest for the Thirteenth Doctor?
I mean, more than likely it'll be like the rest of the new series where about 80% of it at least is just The Doctor having fun time/space adventures, but each Doctor has had at least some sort of romantic entanglement in the new show.

He or any of the characters in Time Heist could have easily become a companion -- as did just about every other semi-important character in any episode of the eighth season. Seriously, part of me was wondering every episode was a light try out for the next companion in case Clara left. Of course, if there is to be a returning companion, it shouldn't be him, or even Captain Jack. No, you know who we need? Mothafuckin' FROBISHER!  |

I'm hoping that either the companion will be a guy, but he and the Dr have a similar relationship to the one with Donna. i.e. no romantic tension at all but best friends or there 2 companions who are an established couple, so there can still be romance but not involving the Dr. Even better if they bring back Vastra and Jenny as permanent companions. Companions pining after the Dr is one of the more annoying parts of the show for me. I'd also really like a non 21st Century Companion, so a human from the past or future or an alien would be great. |

I loved River and really liked how their romance took place over a number of different regenerations, which was a neat idea, but I think it works because River was never a permanent companion and their romance took place over 3 Doctors. She turned up for a few episodes each season and it was special. My issue with companion romances is that either it is unrequited like Martha and half the season is her pinning and the other half is her getting over her crush OR it is a doomed romance like Rose or Amy because the Doctor can never say I love you, blah, blah, drama, drama. So I'd be into a romance but with a recurring character, not a companion. |

edit: well, I take it back. how old was Vastra? The idea of the doctor having a Vastra/Jenny dynamic with a human sounds fun.

Part of me wants the new doctor to be in a relationship with a guy, then regenerate into a gay male doctor eventually...but that's more about me then what's good for the show... I'm down for whatever mostly. I do hope we have some m/m romance at some point with companions or the doctor one, and not just a one off or kill the gays thing either. |
