I love Dragon Ball Super.  It started off kind of strange, but once it got going it was all pretty amazing. Though it does have a bit too much talking each other to death instead of real fights thing. Though that has always been a bit of a Dragon Ball thing so I should be used to it.  |

 You can definitely see influence of other, more recent anime on the fights in super. There's a fair amount of Naruto flavor to some of the fights (Piccolo vs Frost, the recent Master Roshi vs Talisman user). Overall I like it, I'm eagerly awaiting the reveal of the 2 Namekian fighters from universe 6... I'm extremely easy though. Namekian = instant interest.

I used to have a set of InuYasha DVDs, lol. After a while I realised it was actually garbage and gave up collecting it. The story had terrible pacing problems.
I like Studio Ghibli films, and there's a few anime movies from other studios that I think are really good. Sometimes I watch Yokai Watch when I'm home during the day.

I gotta be honest, I think that DBS sucks big time and I only see it because I love the characters and because it's Dragon Ball, but the show is as sexist as in the past, not that homophobic thanks to Whis (even if he's a living stereotype). Plot-wise is not as strong but I dont care about that much. Said this, I caught up with the show and I'm dissapointed that Ten didn't do much... oh well. Also, mini-rant about Frost, at first when we met him in the manga I thought he was going to be a good version of Frieza (Piccolo even told us his KI was not evil... bad writing), the design of Frieza's race is cool and I was totally on board for one of those to form part of the Z Fighters, but like I said DBS sucks, so same old song same old Frieza character again, now in this week episode I'm going to see him again and remember how salty I was when I found out he was a villain...  I only want that Piccolo and the androids last until the last fight, we know Vegeta and Goku are going to be the spotlight again but at least let those three shine a bit til the end. |

Well (both scenes are in the manga) Toriyama has always had deep homophobia, and I dont know how he managed to create a character like Whis, yes he's flamboyant but there're people like him in real life, but for now he's not a parody of himself, he's a powerful being and plot-relevant character, we dont even know if he's a gay angel or even if angels have the needs to be in relationships, but he's definitely queer and he's awesome. About his blatant sexism, well, he always creates these awesome female characters only to reduce them to wives and mothers useless roles, Chi-Chi, Videl, A-18 and Bulma, even if she is not a fighter she's the brain of the gang and all these alpha males would have been dead if it wouldnt have been for her. Roshi as character is really gross, I like him as parody, but he's still gross. And I could write a thesis about Launch (submissive woman = good, angry woman = bad) But then again, this keeps happening in Super, the dude should evolve a little in 2017. Krilin: "Have dinner ready"  A-18: "I'll wash your shoes when we get home."  (these are two screencaps from my twitter) As I said in the romance thread on BSN (we talked about this there) I love the characters, I grew with them but I would like Toriyama to grow as person, I know the bastard is old but come on. I would love for Bulma to be a fighter with an Iron Man-like armour, that woman is a female Tony Stark. For Chi-Chi and Videl to keep training too. I'm glad A-18 is fighting in this tournament tho and that Bulma's brain is useful sometimes, but it's not enough, and there're certain tropes that keep happening and bother me :/ |

Well with Chi-Chi her main goal was raising Gohan to be a scholar so it makes sense she doesn't fight. Bulma I never saw as someone that would do fighting even if they built a mech suit or whatever. Android 18 is still a badass even if shes a house wife. Launch was forgotten about and Videl was a fighter but I never saw her becoming a main fighter after the Buu saga.
I won't touch General Blue since he was definitly a characterture but staff officer black was the same way. I just say its Japan in the 1980s.
I like Whis but mainly for his interactions with Beerus. I thought he was flamboyant but never really thought beyond that. Roshi is a perv, thats who his character is and always will be. I don't know if you've ever seen Dragonball but that show is very dirty.

A character's goal is only what the writer want them to be, so it's not an excuse, the fact here is that every female character have been useless after getting pregnant. A-18 fighting again in this tournement has been a spark of hope of mine (same with future Mai). About japan in the 80s, you have Sailor Moon there with great female roles and good LGBTQ representation. The fact that the only queer characters have been an insulting parody is very ... well horrible. Sorry for being a buzzkiller but I cant change what I think about Toriyama, I definitely dont like him at all lol it's not all bad for me, A-17 being an animal defender is A+++  |

I'm about 15 minutes in and I love it, I love the idea of it. I've needed a violent anime for a while and this one will do nicely.
