I am loving the game so far, from what I briefly played. I probably spent too much time making my Rook and Inquisitor so I didn't get to play as much as I would've liked. My PC was struggling to run the game, so I had to switch over to low settings. Everything looks like...water-colored basically and not pretty at all. It honestly was a little painful to look at for the beginning but I think my eyes adjusted to it by the end. There's still the occasional lag/slow-down but at least its playable! I actually really ended up liking my Rook! It's hard to tell from this image, but he's a redhead. I tried to avoid making a blond, as I usually do, and I was happy with the result! Yes, I did end up choosing to go with an elf! He's a, rogue, a Veil Jumper, and his name is Leonis. So far I think I will play him as a confident risk-taker. I will try and take better screenshots later. I have to admit I wasn't really a fan of the CC here. I tried, and failed miserably, to make my Inquisitor. He looks nothing like he did in Inquisition. Maybe I needed to spend more time with it, but I feel like having low graphics settings didn't really help because nothing seemed to change much! Not happy with the end result, but here he is. I'll have to pretend it's the same guy. Very excited to finish work tomorrow and play more! I am most likely going to take the weekend off to enjoy the game! Davrin's boobs Sorry you weren't able to get it running! I kind of understand how you feel since I can barely get it to work myself on the low settings! It almost feels like my PC is going to explode trying to play this!

HOW DID YOU ALL GET YOUR HUMAN ROOKS SO HOT?! I tweaked and tweaked my Inquisitor but he never looked as good as any of your Rooks!
farferello So glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with the Inquisitor in the CC! Also still heartbroken and angry they denied me the choice of Blackwall and Cullen because my guy is the "wrong gender" lol.

Also still heartbroken and angry they denied me the choice of Blackwall and Cullen because my guy is the "wrong gender" lol. Rook just has way better presets to use as a starting point. My Trevelyan was giving Asian twink no matter what I tried. And nothing against Asian twinks, but that is definitely not the vibe I was hoping for. So happy I went Shadow Dragons for my warrior over Mourn Watch even though I plan on being a Reaper. First I love my Rooks thematic hairline snake tattoo plus I like all the special dialogue I've gotten. And while I like the connection Rook has with Neve because, I think I'd rather start off with a blank slate whenever I find Emmerich in case I do romance him.

This is how my Rook ended up looking. I like him For the inquisitor, I just picked one of the presets and gave her a new hairstyle, because I don't really care

Finally met Davrin. Oh no he's hot, I could definitely see myself romancing all three lol.
Also, Assan is precious.

I finally got some half-decent (and 8ish hours) sleep. I'm almost ready to go back in, but might eat first. One observation I must make though is...I could live without the Varric narrations. I feel like the guy is just there to scare this shit out of me after every major (or extremely minor) choice.

Yeah I think we all universally being ruined by the inquisitor creator, I also been looking on the bioware discord and the ones posting their inquisitor comparisons also having a tough time. Is just one of those I guess you gotta accept it. And yeah Andrew Mancer, it feels like the sliders on inquisitor does nothing. It really does feel like the inquisitor was a late addition. I think inevitably though is near impossible to replicate them because even some of the returning characters look pretty different in the game. Here's my comparison I forgot to make one, seeing them side by side, I don't hate it I guess. I considered growing him a beard but I feel I would recognize it even less LOL: Loving everyone's Rook so far though! It makes me so excited seeing everyone playing at the same time brand new and what everyone is creating! Not a single Rook here looks the same and that's awesome.
I noticed on the setting there's a nude filter, but I imagine that's gotta be just boobs? lol. Also speaking of that, I don't think there's any way to make my character run around fully shirtless, can put on any armor or outfit but not toggle fully off, but there is helmet off option on the setting in case anyone missed that.
mediocreogre I would ask you to introduce me your cousin but hes already married, dang! hahaha. Davrin's boobs We already talked but still sad to hear and hope you can decide on something soon. If you do decide to upgrade your pc though you don't need a super duper upgrade to play this game so you can go easy on your budget a bit if you want haha. I also was excited for you when I saw there was more body size customization and wasn't just muscle bodies. disgustednoise and Lee you both definitely are very ahead of me, I only have gotten Bellara but I finished all that part now and gonna go take "a nap" in game for something in the lighthouse. Today I will have a much longer session though so I'm very excited. And yes the Varric narration is hella gloomy I agree Lee, kinda tone conflicts thanks to that haha. farferello Glad you manage to settle on a qunari design! I do think the marketing for the qunari creator was bad, as I seen some great qunaris like yours. Seen some resemble iron bull type of design as well from some, granted within the limits of the art style.

I've managed to get as far as recruiting Lucanis and doing some stuff in Treviso. It has been pretty fun, Lucanis and my Rook are both terrible at flirting, it's great. I've also had some nice reactivity in Treviso due to being a Qunari which has been pretty sweet. Flirting over coffee, though to keep in theme I had my Qunari pick hot chocolate for his hot drink of choice. I also finally got him out of the Blood Dragon outfit and got him something more fitting, though I do miss being able to dye outfits. In certain lighting he just ends up being very blue/purple all over because his gray skin just seems to change depending on the light. I also had an 'oops my exploration has gotten me into trouble' when I bit off more than I could chew at level 11. I've no idea how I survived. Approval wise everyone is around 3, Lucanis might be close to 4, whilst Neve is still at 1, though I'm hoping that will improve when I do her quest stuff. I've just found Harding/Bellara more useful out of the ones I have available for setting off combos, though I usually combo between my Rook and Lucanis whilst Bellara slows time. I plan to use Davrin when I eventually get him but I'll have to see how he fits in. I need a break now though but I have next week off work to play more.

I had the same thing where my level 7 Rook kept getting his shit kicked in by this one demon in Minrathous until I realized it was level 20 lol.

Scottphoto his older brother is single and bi but kinda doesn't look like that at all, he looks more like me I guess, and the one who does look like your character is very schlubby like if your character let themself go and drank a lot of beer. The perks of being with your high school sweet heart: never having to go on the dating market and therefor not having to look nice except at your wedding where you rip your pants during the mother son dance lol. Anyways. I freed up some time to play this this weekend and test my PC - I'm at recommended or above for CPU/RAM but my GPU is not near recommended but still above minimum but it does have a lot of VRAM and surprises me. Now to just spend the next 48 hours fucking up my internet by downloading it.

Got Taash, so I finally have everyone!
Emmrich is such a sweetheart. I fear I'm going to end up going 4/4 with (canon) mage romances.

I've been doing a lot of side quests tonight after finally getting Davrin. So I haven't made a lot of story progress. I did technically also lose Lucanis temporarily. That's very spoilery though so I'll just leave it vague. I gave gifts to a few of the companions... that was disappointing, I was hoping they'd at least have a cutscene or something. Davrin has a heart next to his level..so I guess that the game is acknowledging my I think one flirt...I guess the companions talks only happen after main quests. So I need to push the story soon. I'm thirsty!

How is everyone finding combat? I pretty much switched to the dagger and orb on my Rook and haven't looked back. It has been super fun and I really like getting in a group of enemies faces, hitting it with my big spell (that makes me jump back after, saved my ass in a level 32 boss fight many times ) and then have Lucanis detonate the combo. Plus getting to stab people as a Mage is fun (and fitting as he's a Crow XD) I also like the parrying though my reaction times for dodging are worse and I usually get knocked on my ass. I'm excited to unlock my specialization when I eventually reach level 20. I'm still side questing but I'll get to Minrathous eventually. I've also been upgrading my workshop every chance I get which has been fun. Caretaker is pretty neat.

I'm playing on Story mode, so the combat has been easy of course. I do enjoy it though. I mostly use the orb and dagger like you said, but I do use the staff when I need precise aiming. I specialized envoker. The specializations are...underwhelming. The lack of abilities really stick out there. I might try the melee one eventually since I like orb fighting so much.
Story progress I have met everyone but Taash. I will be doing that later today sometime, but I plan to visit with my aunt for a while possibly first.

I'm not loving combat, personally. Maybe I just haven't gotten the hang of it, but I'm finding it tedious as hell. I even dropped difficulty way down just because I want it over with as soon as possible. I'm trying to play as a ranged rogue and they do not make it easy. The fact that enemies naturally charge Rook means its almost impossible to line up a shot before another enemy melees you. And because they've limited arrows, you can't even rapid fire -- you need to hit them with the 8 shots you've got. I'm sure it will get easier as you upgrade the amount of time it takes to regenerate arrows and (hopefully) how many arrows you can have at a time. But it's not fun. I just got Lucanis and it's a bit better with him as a melee attacker, but for 95% of the time I've played, I've only had ranged companions and they just don't draw aggro. It feels like they've intended for you to be melee for the first chunk of the game because why wouldn't they give you a melee companion to start like all of the other games.
I also HATE the companion system in combat. It's basically Mass Effect and that's not what I want out of Dragon Age. I want to be able to directly control them (and I want more than 2 of them). OR I want to be able to just have a setting where they can automatically use their more powerful spells/skills without having me direct them. I'm finding combat a little anxiety inducing because there's too much to manage and it's too fast. I'm too busy dodging 7 enemies all charging me at the same time so I forget to tell the companions to use their more powerful moves so they are just standing off to the side doing the tiniest bits of damage while I'm being overwhelmed. I want to be able to pause, move companions around, issues commands, and then unpause, almost like a turn based game. DA: O and DA: I both allowed that to happen and I miss it. Alot.
The story is great, but this is kind of gearing up to be my least favorite DA game, I think. Maybe I'll change my mind as I get further.

daveliam1 I really dislike how long it takes to get a balanced team for sure! I mean you have to play an insanely long time to get even one warrior. The game seems to be designed around Rook being the warrior the way it throws mages and rogues at you.

The exploration in this game is sooo much fun. I want to get on with the story to get all the companions (I only have Lace, Bellara, Neve and Lucanis), but I constantly get distracted by all the shiny things and secrets
As for combat, it would probably be really fun if I didn't suck at preatty much anything that doesn't allow me to shoot things... I'm glad that I can respec anytime I want, so I can try different things. And I'm glad that they allow you to customize difficulty.

Combat is a mixed bag for me. I love it for grunts, but bosses get quite annoying. Idk if it's because I'm a warrior, but I just get bombarded constantly. I feel like I do nothing but run and dodge and wait for my companions to deal with him.

I think the enemy AI is just set to focus on you most of the time. Any fight I have that has harder enemies they all seem to beeline for me. I'm melee so it's not too bad but trying to set up a combo, getting knocked on my ass and not getting my ability off (but my companion just wasted there's as I told them to use it along with mine) does get annoying. It's much more noticeable against higher enemies, especially worse if they have a shield. One fight I did that was way higher than my level had multiple phases and the boss just hunkered down behind its shield and focused me which made it very annoying to get in and hit it outside of slow time abuse. It would be nicer if they had made companion recruitment either faster, or changed who you get first. Having just a bunch of mages (especially when you're also a mage) or a couple of rogues does feel a bit of a pain when enemies are focusing you. With only three slots, abilities are just too precious to let one be wasted on 'healing' so outside of Rook, if the companions take damage there's not a whole lot I can do. Aside from combat, how are people enjoying the banter between companions? Harding seems to spend every conversation threatening Lucanis, whilst Bellara and Lucanis have fun conversations about monetizing the Veil Jumpers work, and how the two of them should be the only cooks because everyone else is just bad at it.
I kind of want to try Lucanis in other party combos just to see what he and the other person will talk about.
