Like I see with the werewolf character a chance at the Beauty and the Beast narrative that's always had a queer subtext, especially in the idea of seeing them struggle and come to accept this part of themselves and embrace it. It's such an OBVIOUS queer subtext that it amazes me (well, not really, given mainstream storytelling, but...) that it's not something I've really seen take that very short step to ACTUALLY being about queer people. |

I really want so badly to hope that they've been listening to what (some) people want dudebros can fuck off and finally give us the Alistair, etc archetype as an option for men (same with Cass, etc for women) but I just have so little faith in Bioware because they keep delivering the bisexual men who only talk about women until they maybe hook up with a male companion, or their bisexuals are otherwise 'deviant' (Josie was kinda the only one not like this in that regard and though she does have the Bard background she's not so... quick to jump into bed I guess compared to past options if that makes sense, considering she doesn't even have a sex scene so that's like the complete opposite) or they 'run out of time' to give us the same sex option. Why is it never the straight option they run out of time for, huh?  I'd be pleasantly surprised if they pulled their head out of their ass finally, but I won't hold my breath.  Bioware is really bad at sticking to their tired archetype when it comes to romance options. Nearly every romance option I've ever wanted in a game whether it be a man or woman, I've never been able to have because they were all straight, and the only reason I got Anders is because they went the pan/player sexual (whichever way you wanna call it) with everyone but Sebastian who was a dlc addition anyway. Mass Effect was slightly better but not really that much better considering you didn't get Steve or Kaidan until ME3 and Kaidan's romance was gutted compared to FemSheps, whilst Steve was stuck in the hold (oh hi there Gil) and people had to fight tooth and nail to get Jaal reinstated as bi. Gil and Dorian just... both have unpleasant issues in their romances, like Bioware can't let a character be gay without making the romance all about them being gay. Like Cass or Blackwall, or Alistair's story isn't just about them being straight so why does that have to apply for the gay characters? Steve was nice enough but it felt very much about his husband and not as much about us helping him get through it, plus I always felt a little predatory coming onto him whilst also trying to help him get over his husband. |
