I just started Anne with an E (Netflix series); it's a retelling of Anne of Green Gables, which I've never read, but I did watch the series when I was a kid. I thought it would be saccharine and lame, but it's actually delightful, feminist, heart-wrenching, and so on... I'm not a good reviewer I guess xD But I'm really loving it. i re-made my account cause i wanted to reply to you haha The show is amazing, it does show cruel reality but can be so touching too i shed so many tears and im just on the 3rd ep lol It really is good though!! Glad someone else is enjoying it Yeah I think I was crying after the second episode lmao I'm either third or fourth episode now.

Wow. And there is actually a lesbian (or bi) woman in Anne with an E. A pleasant surprise!! Warning though (spoiler for episodes 5-6): Bury your gays trope. Josephine's beloved, Gertrude, is dead. However, Josephine is an old woman. She and Gertrude lived together for many, many years and lived a long life together.

This was done by people who were sweethearts and usually engaged. It's possible the girls are play-acting, both of them seeing themselves as the romantic heroine being parted from her love. I haven't heard about Montgomery saying Anne was bisexual; that would be very forward thinking for someone of her time lol!

The novels were written at the beginning of the century. I'm all for headcanon bi!Anne. I'd be fine with them making it canon in the show, too. We'll have to see what happens! A lot of the "love talk" between the girls though CAN be read as either play-acting or simple (non-homoerotic) female affection. People back then weren't desperately afraid of homophobia as they are now (most didn't know same-sex attraction even existed) so they were more free with their affections, whether it be female to female or male to male. Ironically, that made it easier for actual same-sex couples to live "as friends" together with no one being the wiser lol (unless you flaunted it the way Oscar Wilde did).

Just saw the first episode of To The Ends Of The Earth starring Benedict Cumberbatch. It's really good, has some top quality period piece actors. It's based on a William Golding novel, though he's not someone I'm super familiar with. It has that 18th century feel to it, so there's lots of body humor mixed in with the macabre and intense philosophical situations lol

I just stumbled across an anime that I'm really enjoying so far: Aldnoah.Zero. Martian colonists uncover powerful alien technology, form an empire, and invade Earth after the Martian princess is (supposedly) assassinated. Cue robot battles.
It's not perfect - the first episode handles exposition pretty awkwardly, there are a few animation quirks that I find kind of annoying, and I hear the show doesn't have a very good ending. Still, I've really enjoyed the episodes I've seen.
I especially love the core concept in that it's a role reversal of your usual mecha anime premise, where a single pilot in a ridiculously overpowered mech takes on entire armies of mooks singlehandedly. In this series, the bad guys are the ones in the OP mechs, and the heroes have to rely on numbers, strategy, and scientific expertise to win their battles. Meanwhile, there's a courtly intrigue plot going on among the invading Martians. The kickass soundtrack, solid gender equality (especially for its genre), and intriguing trio of protagonists are also points in its favor. As someone with a mild form of autism, the "main" protagonist, Inaho, IMO is particularly relatable.

Also rewatching GOT season 6. Usually I rewatch all of it before a new season but I didn't feel upto the 70 hours this time.

I'll keep goin' it suffers from the same thing that many Netflix shows suffer from, which is that it can be slow, particularly after the first few episodes, but IMO the slow parts have a good payoff later in the season.

I kind of tuned out during Season 5 until the final episodes tbh. Then it got really good. I wonder how things will turn out. OITNB S5 spoilers: There were a few scenes I thought were interesting, like when Bailey speaks to Poussey's dad. Maybe I need to rewatch the first few episodes, but the beginning was just a lot of chaos that came off with little cohesion imo. And this season of course did nothing to make me like Leanne any more. Generally I can see redeeming features in most of the characters there and like them, but she's in the running with Fig for characters I dislike lol. At least Piper is a background character now, but Leanne and her sidekick just go around annoying people center stage. I still hate how cruel she was to Pennsatucky and Soso, too. Sad about Flaca and Maritza in the end

Sad about Flaca and Maritza in the end I liked that it was chaotic at the start and then settled down. The season was supposed to be about a prison riot so the chaos and then people settling down into a rhythm felt like the right vibe for it.
I'm not gonna lie, I skipped over the Leanne parts, I've no idea why she has such a focus now. Piper works far better has a secondary character as she is less annoying that way.
Some high points of the season for me: Every scene with Flaca and Maritza. Red & Flores trying to get dirt on Piscatella and them him wandering the halls kidnapping people like the terminator. Freida's bunker Linda's slow realisation that prisoners are people. All of the negotiation scenes. Everything about the last episode.

I have....... no idea where to put this, but I just found Buffy's unaired pilot episode. Holy shit, my brain doesn't know what to do with a Willow who's not Alyson Hannigan.
