Too... movie-like. The special effects, the non-stop action... I know it's a trailer, but I want exploration and meeting new species and the constantly evolving relationships between the crew!
The Klingons, WTF. No, those aren't Klingons. And the Vulcans' ears even looked off. Why do they want to change things THAT DON'T NEED CHANGING?
Well, we'll see. Of course I'll watch it! For Michelle Yeoh alone, hell.

I know it's a trailer, but I want exploration and meeting new species and the constantly evolving relationships between the crew! The Klingons, WTF. No, those aren't Klingons. And the Vulcans' ears even looked off. Why do they want to change things THAT DON'T NEED CHANGING? Well, we'll see. Of course I'll watch it! For Michelle Yeoh alone, hell. To be honest most alien races in star trek are human like because they did not had the resources for more but idk it could be better too. |

Also, I'm a little disappointed in Doug Jones's alien, if that was him being all "death sniffer" or whatever that freaking part was about. It wasn't that impressive of an alien for Doug Jones. |

Oh good, I'm not alone in disliking the new Klingon design. It just feels kinda...generic I guess?
I was honestly expecting more exploration/discovery in the first trailer; hopefully future trailers will emphasize exploration more. Strange new worlds, new life, new civilizations, boldly go where no one has gone before, all that jazz.
That said, I'm digging the new uniforms, and it'll be nice to have another Star Trek series with a woman in the captain's chair. I'm also happy to hear that there's a gay man in the core crew; as long as he isn't just set dressing to "win diversity points," that'll be a big plus too. Overall, I guess my current mood is lukewarm.

I don't even mind the TNG episode that tried to explain it off. I see sci-fi alien races as just representations of humanity anyway, and our struggles to get along. |

I'm not keen on the idea of an over-arching plot. I know it's thing thing these days, but I like to be able to tune in to a random episode, turn my brain off, and have an entertaining experience without having to keep track of all the ins and outs of some involved plot and the goings on. That is why TOS and TNG have such a high re-watch value for me.
[edit] Just watched the trailer and wow... that did absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. Those are not klingons. Mark Lenard is the only Sarek. Two female leads is nice, but it would have also been nice to spotlight some of the other crew other than the "I can sense death" alien guy, a single personality-defining line would have been sufficient.

Okay, I've missed the launch of the trailer. Just seen it after about 10 minutes of digital hollahooping trough excessive CBS geotagging the trailer/first look across the internet and when actually wanting to watch the trailer on their own site you have to install Flashplayer...now that's some giant red flag right there!  Colour me luke warm as well, I'm glad the series is progressing well and I'm looking forward to see how developed the characters will actually be. That said I can't deny it also feels a bit like MEA before release... I like how the new ship looks though. |
