Slowly going back to The Arcana again in my spare time. They added some more routes and gay men and straight women still have most options. Now there's two female routes and four male routes. Routes aside the game does still have a bit of gay in it and I wouldn't be surprised if the writers had originally made one of the routes, Asra to be 100% gay, at the very least the man prefers men. Given what I've seen so far at least. This is an old post, so I apologize, but I just want to clarify: Asra is nonbinary! He just uses he/him pronouns, but doesn't mind they/them, according to the devs. That said, while I love The Arcana, I think my only beef is what you mentioned. Asra's route definitely seems written with a male (or NB) protagonist in mind... but the majority of the others seem written with a female protagonist in mind. It's not SUPER noticeable, but sometimes the prose in the male routes portrays the PC as being frail, or smaller than who you're romancing, or it describes feminine body language, and so on. I LOVE the game, it's just a common gripe I have with LGBT-friendly otome games where they're still written with a female protagonist as the target. But the game itself, overall, is very good, and has one of the best stories I've seen in this sort of game.

Oh, but on the topic of Choice Of Games: A Study in Steampunk is a good one! It's Sherlock Holmes, but in a steampunk setting, with a bit of supernatural horror thrown in. You play a male character (basically Watson), and have a choice to initiate a romance with your detective partner (basically Holmes), a governess (basically Mary), or a revolutionary (basically Irene). The gay route with the Holmes knockoff is actually very emotional, and I felt it handled the "gay is taboo" element extremely well, unlock a lot of other Victorian fantasy stuff. Despite the characters that are basically ripped from Holmes, the setting is wholly original, and the plot is a huge sprawling conspiracy theory involving... sort of the equivalent of vampires. There's a number of factions you can side with, and a whole slew of endings. One of the best Choice Of Games that I've read, haha.

I'm not gonna spoil anything here but I am gonna say Three Houses fucks over gay male players way more than the first impression gives. I'm sorry fellas.

Hello, everyone! I`ve recently found these novel style mobile game series. I don`t know if this was mentioned before. Here`s the info from wiki and link to it`s page Choices`s wiki page linkwiki info quote: EDIT: I should probably add that if you`re not into manga\anime art style then you will be happy to see it has more "classic" drawing style.

There's a new bisexual male option in Fire Emblem 3 houses now. He's only in one route though sadly, but still good to see we have more than one finally. Also he's the free part of the wave 3 updates to the game. It's Jeritza the death knight. I haven't seen all of his supports, but I did watch the S support to make sure it is romantic in nature. It is. Though it's not a very romantic support per say, more like IDK bad boy love perhaps. Sort of like crazy pants Lelianna in Dragon Age Inquisition-if she was struggling between killing you and fucking you. I'm actually laughing out loud that the DLC paid female character doesn't have supports. Honestly, there are already so many female romances in the game. Though I'm sure there will be more f/m options in the final dlc. I just hope the rumor of 2 more m/m's in the final dlc turns out true. I have hope given that we got a free romance option already.

So I`ve tested this mobile game Choices: Stories You Play (designed and produced by Pixelberry Studios) and you definitely can be gay there. Choices: Stories You Play WikiRegarding romance: Sometimes you can choose from 3 male love interests while playing as male (!). Yep But usually you can choose from 2 male and 2 female options. And treatment of LGBT characters there is very nice. I haven`t seen gay angst there. Sometimes game even ask you if you prefer guys\girls\both\or not interested in romantic content. In some of these visual novels you can choose looks of your main LI and their gender. Regarding Plot: Stories are good. Its not about romance only and have other plot going on too. There are story about superhero (and you can be gay superhero), romance cowboy or cowgirl, play as thief who`s planning a heist, take part in a reality tv show, investigate a mystery in a small town or be a doctor. Its visual novels and art is beautiful - characters, locations. If you like reading you would like it. It`s kinda comics\novel combination and it is quite immersive. These are the titles where you can choose gender of your mc and have gay\lesbian\bi romance. I will tag them under the spoiler not because there are some real spoilers just so post wouldn`t take much space. Here`s plot description from wiki: Hero - Plot: A superhero action-thriller about a mysterious being who gains supernatural abilities after a freak accident and who fights to bring down a business tycoon bent on world domination.
High School Story - Plot: The series focuses on a teenage boy/girl who has recently transferred to Oliver M. Berry High School and focuses on making friends, having laughs, and figuring out where they fit in High School
Big Sky Country - Plot: A recently unemployed individual must bring two feuding families together to save their land from a shady businessman. (cowboys here)
America's Most Eligible - Plot: Battle it out in a reality TV show to determine who is most eligible! Create alliances, make enemies, even fall in love... the choice is up to you!
Open Heart - Book 1 Plot: A first year intern at Edenbrook Hospital must adapt to the stress of their new job while dealing with a jealous colleague, a shady businessman intent on destroying their career, and discovering what it means to be a good doctor.(3 male LI if you play as guy)
It Lives -
It Lives In The Woods - Plot: The book focuses on a group of teenagers who have barely spoken to each other in a decade banding together in order to confront a terror from the past. (One of MC`s friends is a transgender)
It Lives Beneath - Plot: A College student helps their younger half-brother settle into their new life after their parents are brutally murdered. However, they soon find out that Pine Springs isn't as tranquil as it seems.
Perfect Match - Perfect Match, Book 1 Plot: A young man/woman believes that they meet their ideal partner through a dating service, but soon come to realize everything is not as it seems.
The Elementalists - Plot: A College Student enrolled at an exclusive university finds themself being targeted by a mysterious enemy while learning that they may be one of the most powerful Magick wielders on the planet.
Endless Summer - Adventure and romance await in the tropical paradise of La Huerta. Can you solve the island's mysteries?
Veil of Secrets - Plot: A Journalist investigates the disappearance of their best friend in the small town of Birchport, but soon comes to realize that the inhabitants of the seemingly peaceful town have many dark secrets.
Across the Void - Plot: You're the new captain of a luxury space liner, and it's your job to make sure your passengers cross the galaxy safely -- in the middle of a galactic civil war! This romantic space opera is like nothing you've experienced!
The Heist: Monaco - Plot: A master thief is betrayed by a member of their crew, resulting in someone they care about getting arrested. Three years later, they are approached by the their old right-hand, who offers a proposition to put together a new gang, get revenge on the traitor, and humiliate an old enemy in the process.
Passport to Romance - Plot: You just landed an opportunity to travel to Europe. Now's your chance to find love, meet new friends, and live life to the fullest!
Nightbound - Plot: A young man/woman celebrating their 25th birthday in New Orleans finds themself thrown into the world of the supernatural and targeted by a mysterious enemy. Other series you can only play as girl but she can romance at least one female character and be gay or bi woman. All title series page

Playing choices long ago, and honestly later stories became kinda lame. Almost all of them are focused only on romance, weddings and pregnancies. And old stories like Hero and It lives series is on hold. Also there are upcoming book about unexpected pregnancy.
Also just for record there is one series where you can not play as lesbian/bi woman it's Rules of Engagement.
Also In It lives in the Woods trans male is also romance option and was done really great in my opinion.
If someone decided to play i recommend it lives series, perfect match, endless summer and Nightbound (in Nightbound there is werewolf romance option).
Also there will be released early next year 2 books with choosable male protagonist fantasy one where you will be able choose your race (human, elf, orc) and book about pirates.
Overall there are some great stories, but at this point right now I'm not sure that there will be more stories where you will be able to choose gender of you MC except of old ones and that was already in development.
Also there is this similar game Storyscape. Right now there are four stories with female MC (Titanic, Life 2.0, X-files, Eternal city) with possible female LI. But in the future they promised to release stories also with male MC and possible gay romance. This game done by former developers from bioware and telltale and choices in storyscape are havins much more impact than in Choices.

arjonet thanks for the details! I haven`t completed all stories yet. I actually played 1 chapter of each story to see wich I would like most. So far I played mostly Open heart (about hospital) and liked it, and also started and liked - Perfect match, Heist in monaco and It lives. Acros the void (about space) seems interesting too. I also liked Bloodbound (vampire theme), but in Bloodbound mc is girl only. Its an action story about vampires in NY.

concerning Choices it seems the devs didnt find games with customizable gender profitable enough? or the writers just dont feel like creating any, considering how recent new games only have female pc unless those are sequels, and most of series with customisable genders were canceled this year...so yeah not looking good. Kinda lost interest in them anyway.
I find myself obsessing over the text based games or choices of games right now, especially Fallen hero and The Wayhaven Chronicles, the former is about disgraced superhero turning villain and the latter is about vampires and other supernaturals with the romance being the main focus ( chef's kiss) and you can be queer as hell in them with several queer npcs

And several where you can choose gender of your MC and love interest. Also they have some stories in work with f/f and f/m. (But of course some complaining why they don't makeng m/f books)

In starting lineup there will be m/m book, f/m book and two books where you can choose gender of MC and LI. In future they are planning release more f/f f/m, m/m and f-nb/f and gender choice books in that brand. And there were lots of comments like where books where you romance females as Male, why you have so many female oriented books.

There’s that saying, “you don’t notice speed you notice acceleration” which is used to describe reactionary movements against progress. Straight male gamers who get grumpy that there aren’t “any” m/f centered games are freaking out because when you start out with 100% of a cake, losing 10% of it feels like a drastic loss. Even if, categorically, there are probably more m/f romance tstories being written now into games than 10 or 20 years ago because there are more games being made period and more games with adult themes getting funded.
The people least willing to “share” are the people who never realized that until recently they had pretty much all the things.

I just found out that one of my favorite games from back in the day (Harvest Moon Friends Of Mineral Town) got a remake and they FINALLY added in same-sex marriage! Now I can marry one of my first video game husbands, Gray, as a man! I had to play the female version of the game (More Friends Of Mineral Town) to marry him back in the day. I know there is also a modded version of the game out there for gay men that I always wanted to try...and I probably still will give it a try sometime... But I'm just so happy that one of the game franchises I played so much as a kid is finally giving us m/m and f/f content!

I heard about last year though my curiosity is if they will call it marriage as the same sex is referred to as best friends in the Japanese version I know every thing else is the same including having a baby is possible but I want it to take its proper title of marriage
