I haven't had a chance to play Remothered yet, but it looks like it features a lesbian protagonist. Remothered inspired by the Clock Tower franchise (and actually started as a remake of the original), and I love those games.

Stardew valley like game that just exceeded it's highest kickstarter tier by 400k. All NPCs can be romanced regardless of gender. Also includes 2 Merfolk NPCs. Love the art style! Expected to be out later in the year.

I'm sold! The game looks and sounds like it's going to be another fun farming sim! So many cute guys to choose from - I mean I know which one I'm probably interested in most - but so many options! I'm glad these types of games have become more inclusive after Stardew Valley released - it was long overdue for these types of games to include same-sex marriage.

I meant to post this back when the game was in development, but there is (are?) same-sex romance(s?) in this game. One of the stretch goals was also adding additional same-sex romances by getting a specific amount of people to wish-list the game on Steam but I don't know if they reached it or not.
I can't find any info on the actual romance options or how many there are though. The first game was fun, but only offered a male protagonist with female romances. Now you can play as a female as well. I think you'll enjoy this if you like turn-based combat RPGs and zombie survival games.

Dead Age 2 Update: I've played about 5-6 hours so far. It's not looking good so far. The NPCs have all assumed I'm interested in women and I've only seen one flirt option - and it was for a female NPC. Haven't seen any gay content at all or indication that I could get with any of the guys in my current group or in the other factions. Will be playing more tomorrow - I REALLY hope it's not a case of hidden gays again.
Other than that? It's a pretty fun survival RPG.

I was surprised there isn't much info out there on this game. I guess that's why I haven't heard of it.

Been playing for days now - no sign of gay content. The game keeps assuming my guy likes women. There have only been flirt options with women and they keep throwing themselves at me. Not a single gay flirt or NPC that I know of. If there is gay romance like they promised - it's very hidden and possibly hard to miss considering I'm almost 30 days in time. ...There was one male NPC in my camp that I accidentally got killed early on - but I thought he was straight unless I was reading things wrong. IF he was one of the (or maybe only) gay options then that was my bad. Still, this is really annoying because I love this game. The only other guys in my camp are super straight. However, you do encounter random civilian couples that you have to save - they can be same-sex or opposite sex since they are randomly generated. However they have no impact on thebgane or its story s9nce they are one-off unnamed NPCs.

Sorry guys. I guess I was wrong. Apparently there is no female player character and no gay romances for "budgetary reasons". They lied to us. They specifically said there was going to be a female player character and LGBT romances in the game and the wishlist thing was a stretch goal for additional romances....but we didn't get ANY. And then they they go and say "you can play the character any way you want"....YEAH RIGHT. THEN WHY DOES EVERYONE ASSUME MY CHARACTER IS STRAIGHT AND INTO WOMEN?!?!
Yeah...don't buy this game....I feel like I've wasted my time because I played looking forward to having a gay character....but we aren't worth the money to be put into the budget apparently....

I tried the discussion board for the game to ask the developers about it but they didn't give me an answer and all I got was straight idiots attacking me and saying I was just trying to start drama. I'm getting sick of the gaming community and how we get treated. I requested a refund on steam and explained how they misled me with the promise of gay romance. I'm not expecting it to go anywhere, but I want this trash removed from my PC and my money back. I can't believe I wasted so much time with it...ugh....

I just picked up Empire of Sin. It's a tactical strategy RPG like XCOM meets Civilization. The gist is that you select one of about a dozen crime bosses who are new to Chicago in the 1920's and then you slowly build your empire by taking over territory, creating "businesses (like casinos, speakeasies, & brothels), and taking out your rival crime bosses until you are the last one standing. I bring it up here because there are about 60 characters that you can recruit into your gang. Each of them has a distinct personality and relationships with each other. For example, I tried to recruit one guy and he wouldn't join my gang because he hated another character who I recruited earlier. And characters can change relationships based on what you do with them. For example, I had two characters who were my starting gang members who went everywhere with me and they eventually gained a close friendship on their own. It's neat. Nothing groundbreaking but a fun little distraction. And it's relevant to this board because one relationship factor is love towards another character. The pre-set relationships don't have any m/m love, but there is an f/f relationship between two of the lady gangsters. And if you go to the reddit board for the game, apparently it's very common for two male characters who spend alot of time together to fall in love (cue the whiney straight gamer boys all crying about how anachronistic it is to have gay gangsters in the 20's). And at least two of the PC characters are queer. Salazar Reyna, a stoic boxer turned gangster from Oaxaca, and "Mad" Maggie Dyer, a former circus ringmaster. I've only played as four of the characters so far and I'm barely into the game at all so I'm sure there's lots to find still. Again, nothing groundbreaking. The 'romance' content is a throwaway (it just adds new stats, no storyline) but it's nice to see that LGBTQ characters were included, even if they aren't terribly abundant in the game. Just wanted to give people a heads up.

So...out of curiosity...have there been *any* video games this year where you can be gay/have gay romance/important supporting gay chatacters? Can't remember any serious discussion on this so I'm just curious because I am in the mood for something gay but don't know where to look other than old releases.

I can't recall any currently out, but Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous comes out in September (if not delayed) and it has a somewhat important npc lesbian couple, a gay companion you can romance, and bi companions you can also romance. It's a CRPG if you're into that. I played the first Pathfinder and the gay m/m romance seems an upgrade from Regongar. (I adored him but... he could be pretty rough around the edges.) The bi m/m romance... if you can look past his outward personality and get to know him, he definitely has some good moments and he romances you in a sense.

I googled games of 2021, cross referenced it with a list of lgbtq representative games coming out in 2021, and it appears there are some bigger releases coming in Q4, and that the ones out by now are smaller releases and of either group very few are RPGs or rarer yet ones where the character you play is lgbtq by default. most are dating games or illustrated story games. The pandemic probably exacerbated the frustrating aspects of the industry that we normally have to deal with.

Hope no one minds me dragging this thread up from the pit, I've been obsessing over a game lately and thought I'd spread it to the group. Scarlet Hollow is a horror VN about a small Appalachian town run by the Scarlets, a wealthy coal baron family with a dark past. You play an outsider whose mother ran away from Scarlet Hollow, returning to town for the funeral of your aunt, and staying with your cousin Tabitha in the Scarlet mansion over town. This game is episodic and has only released three chapters out of seven, but the chapters out already has a lot of replay value - there's a trait system that lets you choose what the MC is good at, several characters with pretty complex relationship values, and several crisis points where you have to make a choice and someone (probably) gets hurt. No real romance yet, but the characters are already pretty great and you can flirt a little. There are six possible ROs so far, one is nonbinary, none are genderlocked, and you can hit on your cousin's undead ex-boyfriend if that's your thing. And if you want to try it before dropping money the first chapter is free here on steam or here on itch.io.

It seems visual novels are the only real way for us to see any representation these days because I can't remember ANY major releases in the last few years that had LGBTQ+ options. I've been playing a really good visual novel the last few days called Andromeda Six. I don't remember if anyone here has mentioned it, but the game is still under development and completely free (if you choose). It's currently on episode six out of ten. You can be male, female, nonbinary and choose between human and alien races. There are several romance options and like above, none are gender locked so you can romance anyone! This one has been really tugging at my heartstings and I'm so torn on which guy to romance! Definitely recommended!

So I don't know if anyone else likes Choice of Games/Hosted Games interactive fiction - but they just released one this week called Golden Rose. www.choiceofgames.com/user-contributed/golden-rose-book-one/The main male romance option is an ex-templar who's still faithful and as much of a goody-goody as you can be while working as a mercenary. Definitely got varying shades of Alister, Sebastian, and Cullen from him - plus there's *a lot* of relationship content for one of these games and I felt it was well done. (I don't know if we still have any posters who care about F/F, but the main female option has big ice queen vibes which is normally only a straight character thing for some reason.) Slight spoiler warning: I will say that when looking over posts from the author before purchasing she said that she wanted to write the romances differently based on your characters gender and while the love interests were bisexual neither of them had a prior same-sex experience. This definitely triggered me a bit, but I bought the game anyway because I liked the demo regardless. Thankfully when I got to that part, at least with the male option he just says he's never kissed a man before - not that he's never been attracted to men before you or prefers women like I was dreading. Might still bother other people, but I was fine with what was there although I would prefer people just let their bi characters be unabashedly bi.
