I know Steve dead husband storyline is a little bit jarring but I gotta love how Bethesda made Barrett, a bisexual black man with a past male lover the poster man companion all these 2/3 years  I'm excited to play this but sadly til next year I'm not going to upgrade my pc, I'm gonna wait as long as I can til Dreadwolf is around the corner. |

I have already spent 15 hours in this game. I was lucky that the game's perfomance was not too bad. 75 FOV is totally a headahce though, so I change it in the ini file quickly using a method from this mod. Still, if you can wait, I would suggest waiting longer so that Bethesda could improve the performance on PC. I've heard XBOX Series X runs the game well though. I change my mind and I am now planing to romance Barrett first. I have a few things to say about him and the game (minor spoliers). Note that I am still very early in the game, since I think I am spending too much time in Bethesda's version of DAI Hinterlands lol. - In the beginning, I have to leave him on a planet so that I can take his ship and bring a certain item to Constellation. And it will take a few more main quests to get him back, so I probably miss a few of his commenrtaries while doing side quests. I brought Sarah with me in the side quests, and she was quite talkative and had interactions with other NPCs. I wonder if Barraett has the interactions as many. - VASCO, the robot, definitely hypes Barrett up. He often says something like Barrett did this, Barrett thought that. I really like this robot. - Even though I am early in the game, I have done a lot of stealing and a little of smuggling. Sarah complained when I stole but did not seem to affect the affinity thing. I hope Barrett won't dislike those activities. - Plushies are the best collectible in the game. |

Someone tried to say Sam is straight and shouldn’t be bi, the voice actor debunks this in their face with “ actually, I played Sam as bisexual.”

I took it as the choice of his sexuality in creating the character was set early on in his life rather than the Starfield PC being possibly the first man he's ever been attracted to, but maybe I was just being charitable to him.

I think he has good intention ultimately, just not aware of wording how it comes off in that case.
I was going to complain there's like no videos on the male romances yet but then I remembered the game is technically still on early access until tonight, so I guess I'll have to wait but I did find the one video guide for Sam Coe if anyone is curious:

Awww 40 somthing minutes of content is better than those 25 from the women, I guess that content creator cut a loooot lmao I'm not gonna see the video but I'm tempted. Hopefully someone does the Barrett one already to see if the length is the same one as Sam's, I will problably gonna see the female romances since I have zero interest on them.
Gonna say that the characters are good looking but too vanilla, BG3 companion faces look way more unique and Larian didnt have the money Bethesda has lol
I'm soooo tempted to see if there are aliens on this game, if they are I guess is last minute plot-story revelation but NOT TODAY SATAN spoilers be gone haha

I looked up the situation that kills one of your 4 romance options. (one apparently has to die) IT's in a main quest called High Price to Pay.
It will give you the choice to stay at the lodge or go to the eye. (no idea what those places are) Whichever place you don't go to one of the companions at that location will die. So stay with (or go to) the companion you want to romance to make sure they survive the mission. I don't know if there's any route to avoid that mission, but it doesn't sound like there is from what I read. I didn't dig into the actual story reasons of the thing, just the mechanics. I'll want to remember once I eventually play the game! |

I wonder if you can have one companion with you and then go save another? Like if you're romancing Sam, go to wherever Barrett is to save him for example. Or if it's something where you're without a companion. I'm tempted to look it up as I know I probably won't be able to play for a while.
Edit: I looked up a bit, looks like it's affinity based. One area will have the highest affinity person die, the other area will have the 2nd highest affinity die. I can't tell if you have a companion with you for this or not but if you're focused on say, making Barrett and Sam like you, you're fucked and have to choose.
Edit 2: Looks like New Game+ playthrough is required if you want to save everyone.  |

It sounds like you should probably boo up as much as possible with your favorite companion and likewise, with your least favorite companion to power game the situation as F*d as that may be. |

I like seeing people talk about rushing the main story. I have never played the main story in any Bethesda game ever. Relatable. I am 23 hours in and Barrett is still stuck on some moon. I have not even met Sam Coe yet. But it looks like the main quest is pushing me to meet them soon TM. This game has many things that distract people from the main quest like side quests, POIs, planets, NPCs, illegal activities, and so on. The thing that delays me from meeting my LIs though is the carryweight which is really low. I am so tempted to mod it to increase it ten times. Regarding the main quest that has impact on companions/romance, I have planned this: I will do the main four companions, romance the guys, and marry one of them. Then find a way to piss Andreja off and leave her to die... |

Yeah without going into spoilers, there's a story reason why new game plus has its benefits, is a weird way to make people replay the game. Not a bad idea to give new game plus more significance but not in the way of impeding you to get the best scenarios if you want on your first run, especially if you do like doing everything first run.

So, I finally start romancing Barrett. Let me say that there are more flirt opportunities than shown in these guides. So, these guides are not “full” per se.
It’s a good idea to save before talking to him. I unintentionally got “Barrett disliked that” because I was a bit too nosy about his ex husband too early. (He quickly opened up in the next conversation though.)
I am also glad he does have conversations with NPCs in quests, like Sarah does. He also does not mind that I steal stuff.

so how ng+ runs work anyways? I have never done them cause it really breaks my immersion starting a story as god-like being but I guess when I play this I'm gonna do it to save them all , maybe romancing space cowboy first and leaving Barrett for my canon character |
