I edited the first post with a new and definitve poll + screenshot of the old one, if they make new romances in dlcs which is very likely looking at Fallout 4 I will do a new one I wonder who voted for Barrett again?

I voted for Sam (though to be fair I haven't seen any of the other romances. Barrett is my new game plus plan. (if I get that far) I voted for Freestar cause I liked that questline the best so far, but I might change it to Constellation later if the main quest impresses me. I mean it feels a bit of a default answer since it's your home team.

I made a lot of progress...but I think I'm going to stop playing. It's an okay enough game, but the further into the game I get the more often it crashes. It's pretty clear the game has some kind of issue that needs patching. It's Bethesda though...so it COULD happen-or it may never get fixed. Hard to say. Either way, I think I need at least a break.

After a short break (a day or two can't remember) I went back and mopped up what was left of the game. Eh...ending thoughts below spoilers for sure. I have to say the ending felt very cheap. I was expecting ending slides since I knew they recapped some of your choices (the factions and your romance), but instead you just sort of walked up to a few of the npc's from the factions floating about in the unity area and the "other me" narrated what happens next for them. It felt...very underwhelming. Then I started the new game plus phase of my run. New Game Plus spoilers: It's very fast...you just load into your new Starborn ship after the credits and are directed to go to Constellation. You have a great space suit...but you have no weapons, money, and your starting ship is pretty meh. If you are like me and customize a great ship-the one you are stuck with at the start of new game plus is just really depressing.
That being said after suffering through a very rough rough first mission collecting one of the relics I am in slightly better shape since I have a decent gun now and some ammo. I am glad I have my money perks still since lordy do I need them. I wish I had invested in the last one...but oh well hopefully I'll level up soon!
technically I skipped the main missions and I've just got a list of relics to collect and of course I'll have to revisit all the temples because apparently, you level up powers by going to each of them 10 times (being why you have to complete the game 10 times I suppose). I'm going to take another break and play something else I think. It just feels like a grind after the credits roll.

Lee It's funny you mention that, because apparently they want gamers to continue to play this game for years. Yet if many are already bored of the game then that just shows that large, open world games have oversaturated the market and have overstayed their welcome. Developers really need to get out of the mindset of "we need to create the biggest possible open world" because it's not new, exciting, and innovative anymore. I'd even go as far as saying the average gamer doesn't have time for that. I love a good RPG, but the thought of going through yet another large, open world game kind of makes me sick.

It's such a lifeless game. almost every planet has nothing but rocks and some have random animals on it....very few have people and they almost all want to kill you-and it's like raiders from fallout or enemies from elder scrolls...they all just look the same and fight the same. I don't see myself clearing the game 10 times. Especially since I dislike the mini-game to get the powers so much. I can't imagine doing it 24 x 9 more times. I don't own the game, so if I do play more It'll be when it goes on sale-cause I have no interest in renewing game pass at this point.

Finished my first playthrough at 260 hours. Did the main quest, all companion quests and all faction quests, and I have to say, they were a lot of fun. I ended up liking the Ryujin questline more than I thought I would. It stood out by being more about sneaking and not at all about shooting, which was a nice change of pace. I'm going to play something else for a little while, then it's time for a second playthrough, followed by a NG+. I love that they basically integrated multiple playthroughs into their narrative.
Some screenshots I took. I loved my ships! Ship building, easily the best part of the game

carcer he looks very cute! And yeah, is very interesting their narrative approach to a NG+ Elias, voice of Sam revealed that originally, the starfield protagonists were going to have a voice, he was going to voice the male version, and Andreja's voice actress Cissy Jones, was going to voice the female protagonist. In the end they decided to switch from that and gave them those characters instead.

It's ok in some games, like Dragon Age Inquisition, I think because the dialogue options and the tone of voice are sort of neutral? I played DAI a few times and I can't remember sitting there thinking "that's not what I wanted to say" or "I didn't mean it like that" or "why do you have to say it like THAT?", the way I do when I play Mass Effect or Fallout 4...

Oh, that’s unfortunate, it’s harder for me to get deep into the game if everyone’s voiced and game is fully cinematic but the protagonist is mute 😞 even with baldurs gate, I enjoyed playing it yes, but i still couldn’t get into it as much as did with mass effect and da2 😖 I don’t have much imagination and don’t like roleplaying as myself maybe that’s why

At least with BG3 there's a narrator to add some flavor to things-the fully non-voiced aspect of Starfield just doesn't land for me. Perhaps it's because it was written first with a voiced protag in mind? (not sure if that would matter or not). Still...the talky scenes feel very one-sided. I really hated the lack of character voice in the wedding in particular. I suppose could have said the lines out loud into the void to entertain myself...but that would probably be weird.

I haven’t played Starfield yet. But starting quite a while ago games with silent protagonists tried things like pc animations, camera angles, etc. to enhance the pc a bit. Kotor did little cutscenes and the camera focusing on the PC, DAO did similar and by BG3 they did all that, more animations, strategic use of voiced PC lines, and a 3rd party narrator.
So I am assuming Starfield doesn’t do that stuff then?

I do like roleplaying the char as an extension of myself, but I still like having the voice. I got used to it on DA Origins, but I didn't became as attached to my char like I did with Hawke and Inquisitor because of that. Will see how it pans out for me with BG3 but at least there's a good chunk of cutscenes featuring the char. I been trying Cyberpunk, and while V is voiced, the whole fps thing for interactions is getting annoying, especially when chars are literally just passing through me XD.

It's been a while and my memory is always a bit iffy, but it seems like they mostly just showed who you were talking to even when picking your talking points. You don't see your character at all during the wedding for example....and I spent a good bit of time picking out what to wear to it...what a waste.

So it’s the Oblivion system then. I never played that game (I was too young for RPGs that weren’t Star Wars back then lol).
I know for Skyrim there’s these camera mods that copy the Oblivion zoom but I hate it because Skyrim’s PC is so insubstantial that doing that makes it more obvious how paper thin you are where as a zoomed out camera with the ability to look around at your own character during conversations in 3rd person is slightly better for me. That simple ability to see your PC a bit more is so important imo.

I'm going to take another break and play something else I think. It just feels like a grind after the credits roll. So I finally played it, I got a better laptop that can actually run it without lagging like hell and also it’s free on gamepass haha it scratched the sci-fi geek part of me for sure and some of the quests were quite cool, they had spy quests( I admit even if I was lying to bad guys the game still made me feel bad for it) , stealth quests ( though I did get frustrated so much) , parallel universes ( wow, those were the best!). The companion system was quite nice too , the romance and friendships seemed to be equally meaningful, the last choice was gut wrenching 😫) and here comes the bad part , the romance/marriage doesn’t seem to be acknowledged outside of your chosen companion… nobody else congratulates you and talks about it( not your friends and not even parents, they don’t attend your wedding and still ask when are you gonna settle down lol ), at the last choice when you save your romanced companion they call you friend…why since when we broke up….i could have saved another friend then lol I also don’t get how everyone assumes your character is gonna go through unity with no hesitation? What if you have a family perk? Even one of the npcs says you can go I’m gonna stay since my parents are here …hello? And companions know you are not gonna end up at the same universe there so goodbye forever I guess? Who cares? Why implement features ( marriage, parents) if it’s half assed job I don’t get it im not interested in ng+ , replaying all those quests no thanks, I liked them once and that’s enough lol so I guess I finished playing unless they fix some of those glaring unfinished features and new dlc makes it worthwhile for you to stay in your universe though that means I will have to buy base game ,by that time it won’t be free, and dlc then… hmm only on big discount

Ugh yeah, the new game plus feels like a huge mistake as far as anyone who is actually attached to their romance and/or the characters in the game. I think if I get the game at some future point or get game pass again-I'll just stick to new characters and stop at the end instead of going to the unity-cause honestly nothing about the ending was appealing.

The creation kit is out and it is glorious! Especially for peeps like me, who love making custom homes for their characters. Cluttering has never been this easy. I mean, you can now make stuff static by just ticking a box. And the camera movement in the render window is such an improvement All I need now is an alternate start mod and this game will be perfect. SKK actually released a mod that works well as an alternate start mod, so I'm all set
