@kymira Hey, me too! I'm holding off on a CPU upgrade for now, since it's hard for me to justify the expense right now especially with my current backlog of older titles. Are we sharing alien art? Stellaris has some pretty good species portraits. Edit: One problem I foresee with making more exotic aliens for player characters and companions is needing to make different armor models for the same armor set, like a helmet that includes space for horns or fringes for one species compared to a more simple shape for the human equivalent.
Don't have helmets, have a force field or something. Problem solved lol.

That is the kind of stuff I am talking about.

oh my in horror i like those kind of aliens but not in my romance games ahaha Yeah, I get a bit skittish around the more monster like aliens. I have needs-like surviving the loving is a must. Also, lips are kind of a must for me. um..the teeth need to not look like knives (or just generally be too sharp/deadly). but they can be super strange as long as they don't kill me. but I have to admit I want them to be human enough (and male of course) that I know how everything works. I love exploring the unknown lol. I'll find out how everything works on my own.

With the new engine, I really hope BGS still makes it very modding-friendly. For me modding BGS games is half the fun and it is incredibly easy to do, compared to other games. I hope they retain how dynamic and accessible their engine is. For example, I could just now input one command into the console and give me 1000 bullets in Fallout 4. Or if I want to remove a hud for a screenshot, I can just use "tm" command and bam, the hud is gone. What they can improve on, well, is many. Stability issues and bugginess in BGS's engine is well known. I just searched for it, because I didn't know about any engine changes, and that would honestly be one of the most exciting things about Starfield and TESVI. Bethesda games always make me feel like I have to fight them, and a lot of the problems are not about bugfixing, but fundamental problems with gamebryocreation. But it seems they're just rewriting parts of it: Interview in GermanTranslation - they like the engine and will keep it, Fallout 76 has a new renderer, lighting system, and landscape generator, they intend to change more for SF, even more for TESVI. And modding is here to stay. So yay for mods, boo for gamebryo v4.0... They insist they keep replacing big parts of it, but I've been having the same issues with scripting (they did make it worse in FO4 though, I've had main quest scenes fall apart), AI pathfinding, collision detection (NPCs falling through walls), vibrating objects and corpses, and so on since Oblivion (first game from them I've beaten, played Morrowind for only 20 minutes). I suspect I'll enjoy this game, but it's a big no to pre-ordering it.

Mod support is going to be massively important. I don't use many mods myself, but assuming Bethesda creates a variety of models for modders to reskin, we could see an unprecedented array of alien appearances.
Tails though. In all seriousness , I want tails on my aliens. I love both Skyrim and FO4, though the writing in the latter was often cringe worthy. I don't see myself having any issues getting into Starfield if it's similar in gameplay. I'm curious if they will be trying to bring over any of the building mechanics of Fallout 4? Creating outposts in space? I liked the building well enough at first. They need to scale that stuff back though, 30+ settlements was so over the top it's crazy.

Aside from the kinds of things everyone else is hoping for (fewer bugs, deeper companions, no forced family, etc.), I'll mention that I hope there are more female companions this time around. Just an even(ish) spread. Having only 3 was a bit disappointing (though I'm glad for once there were more male romances). It would be great to have more alien aliens, for sure. I don't mind some more humanoid ones, but I'd love to see others (we didn't see enough elcor, hanar, etc. in ME and they're not even in ME:A). Human-looking aliens are so common in live-action because of makeup difficulties or expensive CGI, but in a game, those aren't problems. Vy is right that less humanoid aliens could present problems for equipment, but (if they're only companions/NPCs and not potentially the player), I'd consider sacrificing a bit of equipment variety to be a good trade for some truly alien aliens. The possibility of playing an alien is certainly interesting, even if I wouldn't do it on a first run, at least. TES games have many races, and I remember the idea being thrown around for ME:A (which is hilariously naive in hindsight, sadly).
Yeah I hope they give whatever cast of companions they make a lot more content than what was in FO4. All bi would be great too and I hope whatever story they have planned for our character, it doesnt involve saving a family member or something like that. I'm excited to see what kind of alien races they come up with. I'd like to see a range from completely crazy looking to vaguely humanoid. No blue all women race plz. Some cool alien concepts I like I really like the first one! Reminds me of Typhon from Prey. The third looks like some of the concept art for the angara, who were waaaaaay more alien looking originally. Would have been cool, though Jaal fans would hate it for sure Unfortunately, the Kett couldn't be too alien if the angara weren't, but I hope if we ever see another species in ME, it's really weird. Totally agree about no blue alien space babes, though I'd go further and say "no aliens with boobs at all". It's uncreative and only there for the sake of titillation (no pun intended ). While we're at it, let's mix things up a little and not always mirror human sexual dimorphism with alien species. Let's have some larger females, some curvy males, females with deep voices/vice versa, androgynous voices, and just completely alien voices in general. And please, no human gender roles. TL;DR: I want aliens, not reskinned humans.

Stuff like that is why I just want human romances Personally, I mean. I'm curious if they will be trying to bring over any of the building mechanics of Fallout 4? Creating outposts in space? I liked the building well enough at first. They need to scale that stuff back though, 30+ settlements was so over the top it's crazy. If they do, I hope they scale it back, too. I was really disappointed how much of FO4's DLC was settlement stuff. I barely did anything with that system besides make some turrets and workbenches. I forgot it but others said it already pleaaaaase no more wives, no more husbands, no more dumbass and annoying kids. But think about all of the fun activities you and your kid can do! This is very close to what I did You got a good laugh out of me

I'm just gonna convince myself that Bethesda couldn't possibly be crazy enough to make a brand new sci-fi IP with only humans in it.

Oh dear, don't let it be like Elite where i have to wait years for aliens to show up, and still only see their ships and not them up close (Though that made encountering them for the first time so effective it actually felt like i was meeting aliens irl lol)

I'll mention that I hope there are more female companions this time around. Just an even(ish) spread. Having only 3 was a bit disappointing THIIIIIS! A lot of games I've played recently that have a companion roster of more than 4 (Pillars 1, Deadfire, Divinity Original Sin 2 as some examples) all have more male companions than female ones. This isnt something that legit bothers me, but like you said, it'd be nice to see an even spread, especially in a game that is going to feature romances. I was sad when Deadfire missed out on their stretch goal of making one of their most interesting female characters into a full companion (which would of also put the male to female ratio on even ground) and Divinity Sin 2 has four male companions and only two female. Hmm, so yeah, I'll just end my little rant and say Yes! More female companions please!

The only "good thing" about this is that gay men for once had more options than straight men but that's only a side effect of straight women as target audience and the all bi route. I find it really really weird that FO4 gave straight dudes only three option for example, and it's a shame Ydwin didnt make it to be full companion (I hope we get dlc female companions!)
