Her response is very confusing and first I thought I was having language barrier problems but I see I'm not the only one xD trans characters are the most forgotten demographic and I would personally be happy to get one less option if that means we get at least one trans character, I'm ok with that. Not ok with straights getting more options again BUT what if the prince is a trans character? Maybe that what is the spoilers is about??? That would be pretty damn cool Even if I have to "share him". LOL.   I don't have a problem sharing him with you, Nick.  And, yeah, just to clarify, I'm not at all saying that there shouldn't be trans representation. There absolutely should be. And it's great that she's including it. It's the fact that she could work in a straight guy, but can't seem to work in a gay guy for unclear reasons that's chapping my ass. Also I was thinking of the "more than equal" quote. I now think she meant that there would be more "queer" characters than "not queer" characters. Which is definitely adding up. But not that gay people would get more options than straight people for once. Because that doesn't seem to be the case with straight people being added in but not gay people. |

More female companions than male, that's good looking how few there were in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire and Divinity Original Sin 2! Cant wait to know the agender companion. And the animal? I'm guessing the goblin (are they non-human people or more like animals?)? or maybe the goblin is the agender one?  Also, Mal I need her as companion, I need her, demon hunter solidarity  |

Well that makes a little more sense about her comments on "balancing" the roster. I can see what she means with viewing it outside of a binary approach.
I'm still not sure why all three male companions (since it sounds like we've met all three male companions already) need to be bisexual while the male quest giver is straight. Why can't any of them be gay? Honestly, I just want a gay male companion. It's such a rare thing to happen that I'm a little annoyed at three bisexual guys again. That's why I'm a little salty. LOL.

I may just have exhausted my salt reserves for the time being, but I’m honestly okay with the situation, if only because one) not every character and/or romance has been revealed and two) the content overall is still for once heavily tilted for queer in varying forms.
Like, I don’t know, maybe this character is a trans guy who’s straight - still a queer character and representation for someone, and it’s actually kinda important to point out that gender and sexuality are two different things. It’d be nice to see other romances be revealed as monosexual - gay, lesbian, straight female...
But on top of that, a quest giver and companion are two different things, and the companions are the ones we spend the most time with, have the most content. So... I’m pretty easy going on this one.

I’d ultimately say that my salt tank fills up when I feel we’re being used - BioWare has taken queer players for granted and we’ve seen what happens when we don’t hold their feet to the fire. Spiders (or Focus speaking for them, whichever) strung us along about Kurt until like a month before release.
But so far, Waylanders has been presented as being super respectful for queerness, and I am willing to extend the trust that everything’s in good faith. I won’t say that can’t go the other way over time, but likewise, I’m willing to trust because I do believe in that good faith effort.

Hi Emily! Thanks for joining us! Yeah, we are pretty gun shy about devs assuring us that THEIR game is going to be the one that treats us right. Hearing that Lugaid isn’t actually straight and that you can confirm m/m and f/f exclusive romance certainly makes me feel better. And, I totally understand how important representation is across the entire queer spectrum. Keep it up. It’s hard to please everyone. |

I forgot that for a lot of queer communities like this one, you look at gender more as a binary than a spectrum, and calculate equality based off of that. It wasn’t the way I was planning this game. It’s so incredibly rare to happen. Dorian from DA:I and Arcade from FO:NV are literally the only ones I can think of ever. And I’ve been a gaymer for over 40 years. There’s so much baggage wrapped up in that. Bisexual guys can be companions because, ultimately, they are still ‘for women’. But gay guys? Either non-existent or relegated to a support NPC role. Because, ultimately, they can’t be as active or badass as other men. In a game where queer representation is so important, I got a little nervous that it sounded (sounds?) like none of the male companions are gay. Again. Hell, I wouldn’t even need to romance him (unless he was a bearded ginger daddy with a faithful pup companion). Just having that representation goes a long way. |

With regards to the bisexuality of the romances, how are you planning on addressing that in game? Like one of our repeated complaints around here is that the male bisexual characters we have experience with frequently only discuss their attractions to women, so that their relationships with male PCs plays more as their exception, rather than them actually being bisexual.

Not every romanceable character is a companion. There are other characters you interact with often throughout the game who you can romance (think dragon age inquisition advisors). There are only 3 male companions... in the Celtic era. Everyone seems to be forgetting that some of your companions are immortal and reincarnate as different people. None of the 3 Celtic era male companions are exclusively m/m *jazz hands* I hope that’s as clear as possible because I don’t know how else to say it without major spoilers. |

Amergin has exclusively dated men up until the start of this game. Heraklios & Berath have had relationships with men & women. |

Pretty much all the questions I could have asked have been asked by others so good on them  But also very happy to hear there won't be any race-gating. I remember a horrible few months waiting to see if Iron Bull would get race gated in DA:I and that's... just not fun at all and not an experience I wish to relieve. I hate having that freedom to choose be taken away because of some bullshit reason. Edit: One thing I will ask and totes fine if it's something that can't be answered - the romances who aren't companions... are their romances going to be 'lighter' than companion romances or will they have just as much depth/content? |

It is refreshing to see a queer dev openly talks about the game this way. Finally a good change from silent treatment and evasiveness other devs usually treat us with.
