I think the one thing that I really want to see is a gay male companion. It’s so incredibly rare to happen. Dorian from DA:I and Arcade from FO:NV are literally the only ones I can think of ever. And I’ve been a gaymer for over 40 years. There’s so much baggage wrapped up in that. Bisexual guys can be companions because, ultimately, they are still ‘for women’. But gay guys? Either non-existent or relegated to a support NPC role. Because, ultimately, they can’t be as active or badass as other men. In a game where queer representation is so important, I got a little nervous that it sounded (sounds?) like none of the male companions are gay. Again. Hell, I wouldn’t even need to romance him (unless he was a bearded ginger daddy with a faithful pup companion). Just having that representation goes a long way. I hear you. So. Here’s the deal. Not every romanceable character is a companion. There are other characters you interact with often throughout the game who you can romance (think dragon age inquisition advisors). There are only 3 male companions... in the Celtic era. Everyone seems to be forgetting that some of your companions are immortal and reincarnate as different people. None of the 3 Celtic era male companions are exclusively m/m *jazz hands* I hope that’s as clear as possible because I don’t know how else to say it without major spoilers. I THINK it’s becoming clearer. It’s pretty confusing and it’s late so my brain is mush. LOL! If this isn’t too much of a spoiler: Is it possible to romance a character who is male across timelines (who either stays the same or is reincarnated as a different character) as a male?

I'm definitely curious about the reincarnation stuff, but considering the absence of reveals of many details in the other time frame (Middle Ages, isn't it?), I was holding back any questions there, just because I figure you can't talk about them yet, given that the focus has been on the Celtic era.
I mean, feel free if you can, but...

Amergin has exclusively dated men up until the start of this game. Heraklios & Berath have had relationships with men & women. this is SO rare with bisexual men, POE2 did it so well and I'm so glad The Waylanders is going to do the same and improve it OMG!!! Another question for fun while others ask more questions, Does have the wolf of Beath a name? Like is he/she important as friend to Berath like I dont know, Itumaak is for Sagani in Pillars of Eternity?? or he/she is just a random wolf companion?

Pretty much all the questions I could have asked have been asked by others so good on them But also very happy to hear there won't be any race-gating. I remember a horrible few months waiting to see if Iron Bull would get race gated in DA:I and that's... just not fun at all and not an experience I wish to relieve. I hate having that freedom to choose be taken away because of some bullshit reason. Edit: One thing I will ask and totes fine if it's something that can't be answered - the romances who aren't companions... are their romances going to be 'lighter' than companion romances or will they have just as much depth/content? Romance depth depends more on the personality of the character and less on their function within the gameplay.

Tbh the Wolf was a surprise to me but any time there’s a puppy, I want it onscreen and involved as much as possible so

Hmm another thing I thought of after having gotten myself locked out of a romance in Greedfall and ninjamanced in other games - will flirt options be obvious? Or do I need to run a gauntlet of figuring out if I'm accidentally flirting/not flirting? Because wasting a 30 hour game in Greedfall because I locked myself out of a romance and had to restart was... not fun.
I swear, I don't just care about romances but it certainly adds to the replayability of a game for me.

Oh and yeah seriously fuck race-gated romances, you’ll see none of that in this game. I know I asked this pretty recently, so thanks for this! I always love to play as a not-human if possible!

I can’t say much, but you’re welcome to ask I do understand being cagey on how reincarnation impacts romances, so if you can't answer without getting too spoilerish, I understand. I'm just curious how a gender-changing across timeframes will be approached, in like "well, we'll try to make this work" or "no I can't do this, I'm just not romantically attracted to you like this" manner, if it's going to be some clear cut distinction, where either you continue the romance or not...
I don't know how well I worded that, or, again, how much you can even answer, but, since I haven't said so yet, thank you just for being here and trying to talk to us and explain things.

I’m generally not a fan of THIS IS ROMANCE OPTION symbols because they can make human connection & sex feel transactional, which is kinda icky. Generally, I try to give lots of context clues that you’re about to do a flirt or fuck things up. This was a good question and something I’ll keep in mind as we nail that down.

So, the person you meet reincarnated has the same soul, but they are NOT the exact same person, because they’ve had a different life experience than their previous incarnation. It’s not like you’re picking up where you left off. It’s not even like that with the immortal companions, because a lot has happened to them in over a thousand years.

I understand both sides of this, because one feel more organic when it comes to character development but sometimes we got ninjamanced so hard that a " " symbol is necessary lmao To put an example, my most recent ninjamancing was with Sebille in DOS2, I was romancing Fane (the handsome skeleton) and I totally ignored her rest of the game when she was showing attraction to my character even though I didnt pick a single flirt line, that caused the game to go crazy and think I was romancing both! When as far I know that is impossible lol but that's more a programming issue than a script/writer issue. But reading that there will be a lot of clues put my mind at peace about this

All I'm asking for from this game are some cuties. But, also, I tend to find romance pacing in most games to be either annoyingly too long to initiate or too fast to complete content. Greedfall is especially bad about this with both of it's bisexual characters in different directions. Outside of that, I know nothing about this game so I would probably ask dumb questions I could answer by googling

Ok this has nothing to do with the game but I would love to know your opinion about this subject. Sometimes romances are very I dont know how to word it since english is not my first language but like socially established according to gender-roles, for example, Knights in Shining Armours cannot be gay or bi (Alistair, Cullen, Blackwall (knight in sour armour), Kurt from Greedfall, Eder from POE) are always options for straight women as demographic, we have kinda an inside joke saying they are the "M'lady" kind of characters whom they always are sweeping you off your feet like you were a princess, and it's something RPGs (not talking about non-rpgs because mainstream game industry sucks and it's not even worth it ) havent done yet with gay/bi male knights.
Also, I'm glad reading the new handsome prince is not straight because royalty is often associated to having a heir = gay/lesbian players never get to experience that kind of characters, royalty characters are always straights and it's so rare to have queer princes/princesses in every form of media

When it’s done well, it’s charming... I do love me some Cullen... but I’m hoping none of these gents fit that bill exactly. Berath may be the closest, but even he is a tortured immortal queer weirdo so
