This is the problem with modern games - they aim to be as big as possible and are always a complete mess on release. Remeber the days when we used to actually get complete and bug free games instead of relying on patches and DLC? Good times.

Remeber the days when we used to actually get complete and bug free games instead of relying on patches and DLC? Good times. Funny thing is that those patches can screw the game even more. I had no huge problems on launch but after 1st patch the game started being a pain. And then Yule Festival really ruined the experience. How am I supposed to play it if things I need to finish bug on me? Impossible. So I stopped during my 2nd playthrough and I'm waiting. I really love the story and I'd love to actually play with MY OWN choices now. Ugh.

So the first major DLC is going to be out by the end of the month. I'm debating how I want to go about it - I still feel the burns from Legacy of the First Blade, and I'm kinda just approaching this by way of poking it with a stick, waiting to see if it decides to lash out. I didn't pick up the season pass when I picked up the game, so I could wait until the end of the DLC cycle and see if it's worth my time... *shrug*

If there's any forced hetero I won't touch ANY of it regardless to which part has the bad stuff. I don't think they'd do that again though, but who knows.

Apparently, the latest rumor is that Wrath of the Druids will have werewolves.
I may now be obligated to get it...

So I got ACV on my ps5 during a big sale at gamestop. I was shocked to discover that my save from my xbox actually showed up on my ps5! that's convient if I ever decide to get the dlc I guess. I haven't played it much yet, but I might start a new game eventually to get some trophies. But for now I just wanted to load in and see how it looks. It looks great (once I turned off hdr!). HDR on ps5 and my tv are not really getting along...seems to be a common complaint. Maybe I'll get some screenshots once I get back into playing. Edit: Well, it seems all my trophies are starting to trigger as well. So I don't have to start a new game just for that. This is fascinating for the nerd side of me.

The new event festival has a letter from your romance option. (we only have the one male romance that you can commit to, however.) I assume you have to also pick their offering to give to the pyre to get the letter...but I am not 100% sure about that. -shrug- If you just want to see the letter from Tarben click on the spoiler. There's not much to it.

Still don’t understand why, if you bring him to the settlement, Vili can’t be a proper romance.
Or Hytham. I’d dig a Hytham romance.
But, y’know, gotta throw Randvi at the player, why wouldn’t anyone want a hot woman who’s totally in to you and gives you multiple chances to hook up, right? *disgusted noise*

It always boils down to game companies only truly caring about the straight male gamers. I mean they can scream "we only wanted female protag" all the want, but reality shows they still put far more effort into the male gaze experience.

I mean they can scream "we only wanted female protag" all the want, but reality shows they still put far more effort into the male gaze experience. That's the thing that gets me about "Kassandra is canon! Lady Eivor is canon!" or even going back to "well, they WANTED a female protagonist in [game]!" Yeah, sure, the lore and the tie-in stuff may argue in favor that Kassandra and Eivor are women, and there may have been things like Bayek intended to die and have Aya take over as the protagonist, all that. But the actual games? The core content of the games still centers on the male protagonists, as power fantasy escape characters for straight men, and you can tell in the build of the romance mechanic, where the options to romance women NPCs are the most numerous in Odyssey and Valhalla - I dare anyone to argue that it's meant for the lesbian/bi representation, as opposed to a fortunate fringe benefit. It's about having all the beautiful women throw themselves at them, and a couple of other options for THOSE people, but it's all mostly for the straight guys.
*sigh* I'm tired of loving a medium that hates me. And that's before getting to the issues of the culture of abuse in these organizations...

*sigh* I'm tired of loving a medium that hates me. And that's before getting to the issues of the culture of abuse in these organizations... Tell me about it! It feels like every purchase I make is somehow supporting the problem, and that there's no real sign of change anywhere. I don't think there's a great solution for us. After all, it's not like the video game industry is unique with this kind of problem. Every hobby I've ever tried to get involved in I've ran into similar walls. So I stick with the one I like best (for now).

Loaded Valhalla back up in preparation for the DLC combo - Siege of Paris is about to drop, so I'll be playing both expansions.
Went by the longhouse and idly decided to see if Randvi had any post-game dialogue. There's a damn heart option there. Even though I turned her down fucking TWICE. Plus found a note about how she finds it 'hard to focus with Eivor there.'
*long, LONG deep heavy sigh*
I repeat, all the "Lady Eivor is canon" stuff really means nothing when it's obvious that Randvi is Ubisoft's sexy lamp that they only see existing for the purpose of rewarding a male Eivor with a prize in the form of a woman swooning over how incredible he is...

First DLC: romance with woman, that involved in the story. Second DLC: hook up with some man on a feast. And kiss from Randvi on return if you romance her.
Why I am not surprised.

The worst thing is that, after the bullshit of Legacy of the First Blade, I can only call this a step up - Randvi is still (despite the neon lights flashing at her of "HERE! Have a hot lady to make out with, you deserve it you awesome stud you!") only optional, and there is no forced romance that the story actively makes you hook up with.
I hate loving something that so clearly hates me for EXISTING...

I hate loving something that so clearly hates me for EXISTING... Well, this makes it easier for me to safely skip the dlc or get it during a very big discount. I watched the "romance" on youtube. Honestly, it feels like they only can imagine someone having sexual feelings for a man and not anything deeper than that. It really feels so shallow in basically every romance they do when a man is the object of affection. (anyone else get that vibe?)

Having played both DLCs at this point... Yeah, I don't actually consider them must-play. Like, I'm not saying they aren't entertaining, that they weren't engaging. I did enjoy them and found them fun. But in terms of what they add to the game... Honestly, it just comes across as "more of the same." Did you enjoy the base game? Great, here's more of the same.
There IS talk of a third expansion still to come, but so far? I only recommend the DLC if you have the cash to spare, and there are other things I'd put as priorities over these.

I find Eivor's face kinda wonky without some facial hair, personally. Just looked kinda off to me without SOMETHING on his face. Though I did keep my Eivor's head hair shaved close.

So, my YouTube recommendations just tossed a video at me about a rumored DLC for Valhalla called "The Fated Encounter" that is supposedly going to have and encounter with Kassandra. Because "canonically," the Eagle Bearer was Kassandra and Deimos was Alexios.
I see no way that, going through with this does NOT end in backlash - even their own metrics say that more players picked Alexios in Odyssey, but this REALLY puts the lie to the idea of variable protagonists, since it's making it explicit that the players' choice does not matter. It's a thing you can kinda brush aside when it's just text and glitches. It's another thing when there's successive content that actively invalidates the choice in question. Which, y'know, was what we were saying back after Legacy of the First Blade...
And like... I have ALWAYS struggled with the way that fandom as a whole treats Kassandra and Alexios, doing that shit where they dismiss him entirely when... Protagonist who can be gay! Still a big deal there! (Also just a general "can we stop just outright bashing the male protagonists for the "crime" of being male? That gets into a gender essentialism of "all men are bad" that leads to outright TERFery and we really should nip that in the bud...) So getting an appearance from ONLY her, rather than Alexios, when I PLAYED a game featuring Alexios as the protagonist... I don't particularly care for that idea, because it feels like erasing me and my story.
Granted, I didn't actually watch the video - that sinking feeling was enough to make me go 'NOPE!' It might just be an idea that was considered at some point, got included in data files, but is not actually going to happen. Still... Thing to pay attention for, I suppose.

Honestly, their obsession with Kassandra has gotten really stale. How many characters in Vallhalla were her with a different voice actor? seriously there are so many women that have her exact face and hair...it's creepy at this point. Or maybe it's just me?
